I love that use the scale that says I’m obese while being 5’11 225lbs, 11% body fat, can run a 5:35mile, sub 18 5k and at currently at my peak. Get out here with quoting and using that trash arse propaganda tool, I’ll take my obese BMi of 22-32 with my speed and athleticism any day.

Yeah, one of the rare few actual outliers that these threads usually attract. Carrying more body fat than ideal, but he admitted that himself. That's a big ole strong baw
Now, where's that guy who's dropping 17:59 5ks at 225
exactly and outliers are just that
its estimated less than 10% of the country performs resistance training of any kind on a weekly bases. how many of them do we think lift enough, hard enough, often enough etc to throw off the bmi? what...lets say half
so bmi is a good measurement for 95% of the population....i guess the 5% apparently post on the OT lounge on good ole tigerdroppings.

This x 100. I'm a pretty big guy at 6'3" 262 lbs. I work out 3-4 days a week lifting and train BJJ another 2-3. My waist is right around 32" but according to BMI, i'm obese. To fall in the "normal" range for BMI, i'd have to weigh 175 lbs. I would look like a cancer patient at 175.
BMI gets thrown way off for above average tall people especially if you have muscle mass. A big advantage of being tall is you can also gain 20lbs of fat and can’t tell a difference appearance wise.

unless you are on major juice your waist is not 32-34" at that height and weight. his jean size might be that, but his waist measurement at the naval aint frickign close to that.
When I played college football I was 6’6 265 with a 36 in waist. I had 6 pack abs then.

its still 20lbs of fat. height does not throw it off, its muscle mass that does. 20lbs of fat is still a big percentage to add on to bodyfat levels
and you posted your picture before and you are not barrel chested as you claimed...you are just fat

You have to give up a little bit of your identity to turn it around. Most people see what it takes and make the shortsighted decision that they'd rather be dead than not eat/drink/party as they normally do.
Thing is, you don't even have to do that. Just balance it out! Skip breakfast, eat healthy on boring weekdays when there's nothing fun happening anyway, eat fun foods without cleaning the plate, etc. Whatever works best for you.
I weigh 108lbs. You know what I consumed yesterday? A small Jersey's Mikes Italian sandwich, a small Jersey Mike's Big Kahuna steak sandwich, shrimp cocktail, chargrilled oysters with bread, well over a bottle of wine, and a trio of small scoops of crab and brie soup, duck/andouille gumbo, and sweet potato shrimp bisque. And that's not unusual for me!
You can still live an enjoyable lifestyle filled with good food and booze by [a] not eating absurd portions of it and [b] watching your intake on the days where you're not socializing. There's no reason not to eat healthy on a boring arse weekday when you have no plans.
Also, I think skipping breakfast (it's not that long until lunch) would help tons of people and still allow them to enjoy fun food/alcohol.
(Edit - I don't personally care about anyone's weight, so this is just a response to the loss of lifestyle thing)

A major issue is the amount we do not know about health and the health care industry and diet / exercise industries convince us that we ain't doing enough and doing too much at the same time. Meanwhile folks live a LONG time compared to history. The experts can't agree, everything works, nothing works, meanwhile folks get fatter and fatter and live longer and longer. Yes, it is generally unhealthy to be over weight but there are an awful lot of people who are and they live a looooonnnnggggg time...

Serious answer: I think part of the problem not often discussed is that the results of poor cumulative choices feel very disconnected from the choices themselves; meaning, each time you reach for that unhealthy item you don’t connect it with the cumulative result of being 100 lbs overweight 10 years down the line. It takes a long time for people to gain and lose weight and so it creeps up and then feels insurmountable to lose. This is not to mention the addictive and nutritionally bankrupt nature of today’s foods, people using foods to treat anxiety and depression much like drugs, and the sedentary lifestyle that leads to more impulsive eating behaviors. I think it’s more complicated than “people are lazy POSs” etc. and I especially feel for people who have a ton of weight to lose. At some point, it must feel next to impossible to tackle and that must feel awful.

25.1 is the lowest end of the "overweight" range. If you actually do lift weights regularly then you'll probably dip into that.

Yeah there’s a ton of skinny people just as unhealthy as the chubby guy but their faster metabolism is masking the obvious warning sign.

As many have already said, BMI isn’t the most useful number for an individual. At the beginning of this month, my BMI was 23.6 - that’s not far off from being in the “overweight” category.
I’m not at all saying I’m the definition of an athlete, but I’m far from overweight. My body fat percentage is currently 15.2% which is higher than I’d like. Working to get that below 13% at the moment.
