Congratulations on being just as ignorant and tribal as the idiots on the left. Your loyalty is noted.

Its a bad bill that does nothing to stop the flow of migrants. My opposition is not political. It is substantive.

My objections are simple. I'm not stupid enough to fall for it. We certainly don't need another bill to fix the border - especially when Biden took aggressive actions to destabilize the Trump border. Why should we have to agree to more war funding to get them to do their jobs?
There was a time when Trump was offering amnesty to secure wall funding. AMNESTY! And democrats told him to eat shite. Now they want a bipartisan bill? And even if they got it, you trust democrats with fixing the situation? You'd have to be the fool's fool to take that bait.

How is that not what it says?

It also includes a mechanism to shut down migrant intake when it exceeds more than 5,000 daily border encounters.
Why is migrant intake not shut down right now, immediately? Why is there any trigger whatsoever to stopping illegal migrant intake?

My understanding is that none of the enforcement can even kick in (and even then it's discretionary) until daily crossings surpass 5K. That's over 1.8 million per year until they even have to PRETEND to do anything to stop it.

And frick Ukraine
Or more generally...frick having to lump 2 completely unrelated big issues into one bill. It's one of the worst things about how congress operates. To get something that almost all Americans agree needs to be accomplished you also have to do some other stupid shite that's completely unrelated to it.

“Encounters” =/= “Crossings”
ETA: “Crossing” in the sense that the detained person is allowed to stay. They do indeed “cross” to be encountered, but that does not mean they stay.
Encounters includes immediate U-turns.
No idea what percent of encounters DO become crossings, but the narrative out there right now is just manipulation of the low-curiosity sheep.

Tell how to find a copy of the immigration bill on the internet?
Posted on 2/2/24 at 11:53 am to Ag Zwin
Trump said if it's a great bill, sign it. he is not obstructing.
what is childish and petulant is the Democrats refusing to enforce the border out of political retribution, reversing the regulations and flat out ignoring existing laws that were working because they don't like Trump and Republicans. Hundreds of thousands of deaths of American citizens because of these actions is not even a concern to Democrats. It's not even a blip compared to the dumb crap liberals fixate on at any given moment. Somehow this does not rate.
And knowing that most of these politicians in their past political lives voted to enforce our border and to even build a border wall including Biden, but they just can't give Republicans satisfaction because they do not want to do anything that reinforces a Conservative/Republican sense of American greatness. this is childish. but who cares about all that, let's make out the Republicans to be the bad guys. THE DEMOCRATS WERE IN POWER THE FIRST TWO YEARS OF BIDEN'S ADMIN. They did nothing but create chaos
and as far as Chuck Schumer being a reasonable element of the Democratic party. I have never seen that before.

In 2022, the last report I saw published, there was 2.2 million "encounters" and that doesnt include the ones crossing at the legal points of entry.
So do the math.
So do the math.

What am I missing? I agree that 5,000 “encounters” pencils out to almost 2 million.
I don’t see where “encounters” means these people came on into the country.
I have also seen conflicting reports about whether this number means they do or don’t come on in. It could indeed be me that has the wrong interpretation, but MOST sources I’ve seen say the encounters include those turned back.
As someone has said, it would be good to see the extraordinary wording, but maybe this is one of those “We have to pass it to read it” things.

So you have a fricking clue but can't find the words to explain it? What about the other three points I brought up?

If they say this is a good bill for the country, they are lying, period end of story.
Yet Republicans sure dont have a problem patting themselves on the back when their constituents benefit from bipartisan passed legislation or when they dont even vote for it at all.
Projects funded by Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, are so popular that Republicans are claiming credit for new projects or, as Representative Maria Elvira Salazar (R-FL) did on Sunday, claiming they don’t remember how they voted on the infrastructure measure and other popular bills like the CHIPS and Science Act.

We don’t need a goddamn bill to take more of our money.
Enforce the laws that are on the books
Period.

How many of these encounters do you believe this administration is actually turning back though?

At this point it sounds like you would be pretty much content with the entire federal government shutting down until/unless Trump is re-elected?
Regardless of who is POTUS, Congress has to change the way they do things. Congress spends so much time in DC that they lose their way, on both sides of the aisle.
1. Stand alone bills should be a thing.
2. Term limits should be a thing
3. Govt payroll being cut in half needs to be a thing

And Democrats dont pat their selves on the back? Biden is a known plagiarist. for God's sake People are tired of BOTH sides pulling this shite.

So if they aren’t enforcing the existing laws what makes you believe they’ll enforce new laws?
They aren't going to do anything about the border no matter what new law they pass. They just need to make it look like something is being done so they can get the Ukraine money and the kickbacks that come with it. Even the Reps just want this to appease their angry constituents.
