What are your objections to (or praises of) Biden's immigration bill?

It's not perfect, but I'm surprised how much it does address issues that I thought he was denying.

Is Trump's objection mostly an issue of not wanting Biden to have a victory here, or is there a real gap this doesn't address?

My guess: It doesn't go far enough in dealing with those already in the country. If so, that's probably valid.

I have not done a lot of reading on this, clearly, but I came across it this morning and decided to at least look at it.

It will give him a Political win and no matter what the bill says it will do, the Democrats will do as they please so in essence, it serves no REAL purpose other than strengthening the hand of the Fascists hellbent on destroying the country.

Also, there is no need for a NEW bill, if we follow existing Law and the Constitution, we will send the military to the border and completely fking shut it.

It won’t change anything. We don’t enforce what we have on the books now. Until that changes this is all just politics and fluff.

And around the bowl we go.

His administrations actions don't jive with their words.

He already holds the authority that he is requesting. They just want more laws, so they can squeeze some other hidden crap into their pockets all while NOT ENFORCING the damn laws already on the books.

Nothing wrong with that argument.

Democrats simply ignore laws.

Why strengthen the bad guys by giving them this meaningless victory?

I've got a great idea: Why don't we have Congress pass a law making murder illegal?

So what does it say?

I think the point is that we have immigration laws that the federal government isn’t enforcing already, Biden revoked Trump’s EO on DAY ONE he was in office, there’s a lot more than just the border in the bill, and we have been told that the border is secure but suddenly during an election year, the democrats want to fix it. Not coherent at all.

Texas had 76k+ illegal crossings in December. In January, that number dropped to 17k+. This is a very fixable issue clearly.

It doesn't address trash lawyers and trash judges bastardizing asylum laws to let people in who simply don't like their shithole.

Doesn't matter in the least what it says.

If Biden and the Democrats are FOR it, it is without argument, TERRIBLE for America.

Giving money to the border to process illegals faster is horrible

We dont need another law. We need to enforce the ones on the books.

But personally I am against any legislation that does not require the immediate deportation of every single illegal in our country.

So, most of the replies seem to be saying the bill does nothing that is not already there.

This piece in The Hill says:

quote:

Key features of the bill under consideration would make it harder for migrants to claim asylum, expand detention capacity and expedite the expulsion of migrants who lack lawful reasons to stay in the country. The plan would also add staff to the Border Patrol and those tasked with processing migrants. It also includes a mechanism to shut down migrant intake when it exceeds more than 5,000 daily border encounters.

Is this not true, or does it not make a difference?

How much money are they proposing to secure Ukraine's border in this bill?

Trump said "if we get a great bill, we should do it." he is not obstructing

but a bill is not necessary to secure the border. in fact Republicans should insist that the Biden admin secure the border first before agreeing to any terms in any proposed bill.

Not needed.

Enforce current law.

He could close border under current law.

He could build wall under current law.

He could mass deport under current law.

If anything, this law.would hamstring Trump's efforts to address the border using CURRENT tools.

I think I made that pretty clear. Is this supposed to be some sort of gotcha?

I absolutely agree it should be decoupled with any other issue, especially Ukraine. If THAT is the objection, fine. It doesn't seem to be what Trump is saying, though.

Johnson's pledge to cut down these intertwined bills is something that should be a MUCH bigger deal, but neither side seems to be buying into it.

This bill is a trojan horse for Ukraine funding.

They are desperate to fund Ukraine. MIC contracting business and foreign policy NGOs hang in the balance.
