What they need to do is start by dismantling the consolidated city-parish government. It’s something that both the NAACP and St. George agree on.
Absolutely this.
The crux of this whole tax issue is the comingling of EBR Parish and City of BR budgets.
What should happen is:
St George keeps a portion of their tax dollars, and in exchange, has to provide a portion of government services. So EBR parish loses revenue, but also cuts expenses.
What actually happens because of consoidated goverment is:
Consolidated EBR / City of BR loses tax dollars, but the tax dollars they are losing is more than the expenses that will be cut.
This is a huge complaint for the St George people... that they are funding more than the services they are getting.
And the city of BR people are saying... you are completely correct... tough titties, we need the money more than you do.

Giving the areas that didn’t want to be a part of St. George is gerrymandering now?

I don't know why this is being downvoted. Other than the use of the pejorative "gerrymander" this is essentially a true statement (although, they didn't vote, they just didn't support/sign the petition, allowing the Registrar to engage in shenanigans with the signature verification).

By "gerrymandered" I assume you mean the planners listened to the people who said they didn't want to be part of St. George and didn't include them in the proposed city limits when they redrew the boundaries?

How long does it take for a decision?
I would expect at least 2 months, and likely more than 3.
Hughes' concurrence/dissent will be longer than the majority opinion.
Now...what's interesting is that the SC has to deal with BOTH the 1st Circuit's decision AND the trial court. If they just reverse the 1st Circuit, that would arguably leave the district court ruling in place (which held there was compliance, but "adverse effects" made it unreasonable).
So, they're going to have to deal with all of it.

I know and actually know MS Banks.
We get along and I am a pretty hard conservative. She fights for her constituents and that is what every council person should do.
In the parish our council should always look at what benefits the parish 1st.
We should never hear that we have to protect BR first.
This is why the city and parish need to have separate governments.
If St George becomes a city I would look at running for council just to piss off LSURussian on a daily basis.
Now I would do it as I feel my area needs things done.
1) cleaning ditches, fixing culverts, and fixing drainage pipes there needs to be a plan. Not this shotgun approach. There should be a time line that each area gets serviced.
2) garbage look at bring in another contractor possibly two. One for one side of the city and one for the other side. Have multiple drop off points inside the city to take care of bulk items. Those hazardous materials collection days at LSU are always packed.
3) paving roads there needs to be a blueprint or plan per each neighborhood or area. People should be able to go online to access this information.
4) work with the agency to police the area if they choose to have city police or the sheriff. Work on traffic patrols especially high usage roads inside subdivisions especially during mornings and afternoons when kids get out of school.
5) midnight basketball, feel good programs, etc are ok. Until we get back to providing services and maintaining the city these programs are on the back burner!!!

I detest Banks for a number of reasons, including the attempt to frick a different district by blocking Denise Amoroso from taking her late husband’s seat and for her race card tossing with regards to the proposed new mega neighborhood in the Zachary school district despite it being in a no man’s land, incorporation wise, and closer to Baker than Zachary distance-wise.

Incorrect,,, the property owner starts the process by requesting to be annexed. It cannot be initiated by the city
MOP was out there lobbying certain businesses to request annexation, and they used the fricking railroad right of way to avoid neighborhoods. Most of those neighborhoods had a lot of minorities, but you only heard St.G. was racist.
Funny how after St.G. pared down its footprint for the second petition (you know, because they hate *******), the City of BR didn't go full court press to try to get those neighborhoods to request annexation.
Man...I'm starting to get pissed again.

I don’t hate her.
We get along.
I also don’t agree with everything she does.

It started way before Broome and MOP.

In his third term, Holden was faced with an effort to create the new city of St. George, an issue that divided parish residents while threatening to redirect millions of dollars from the city-parish coffers. Holden was restrained in his public comments about the effort, but behind the scenes, he and his team worked strategically to dismantle it.
Holden directly met with representatives from the L'Auberge Casino and the Mall of Louisiana, successfully persuading them to be annexed into Baton Rouge, ensuring their sales tax dollars could never be used for St. George. Although he was successful in striking major blows to the proposed city, he did little to mend fences, leaving the door open for renewed efforts in the coming years.

But they won’t have a PD
Well they don’t have one now the sheriff has to service them.
Well how will they get more PD services when they are a city.
Well they already have the sheriffs office now, why would they need more than they already have?
Well the sheriff said he wasn’t going to be the st G PD.
Well he doesn’t get to pick where and where not he will patrol in EBR Parish
Well they won’t have a PD, and they can’t afford a PD
Not a direct quote of the exchange, but just as circular.

Don't forget creative use of Ward's Creek and the interstate right of way so they could grab more businesses off of Siegen/Rieger Road, like The Advocate and Lipsey's place.

They would still use EBRSO. St. George still falls within the confines of EBR Parish. It would hardly be much of a change. Most major cities utilize a sheriff over local PD.

Lead him right into the truth. I wish I could have seen the guy crawfishing on the other side.
"Well, uhh, ya honor, what I men is, uh we will have to cut, ummm, well, ya see, ya honor, those guys have a lot more money in that area, so they can afford to pay more taxes. And, I mean, ummm, most of them have jobs and legal sources of income. So, well, we don't have to spend so much of the tax money in that area so we can waste it, I mean use it elsewhere. Ummmm, ya honor, can we take a recess" I gotta pee."
