Correct. Here's an actual YT video of Holden getting caught lying about soliciting annexation
It was quid pro quo. The city told the mall and the casino they couldn’t have a bus stop if they didn’t want to be part of the city.

I remember L’auberge started getting bus service right after that.
Another property owner was promised road lighting if he would let his property be taken into the city so they could connect to Siegen Village.
There was a lot of deals being cut.

The mall would have been better off without one.
Not sure about the casino.

Would you like to see my tax bill? I'm thoroughly bent over when that time comes. All I ask of the city is for my garbage to be picked up on time
I’m not saying it’s your fault, but it’s not our fault BR is run so poorly, and yet they run things even more poorly for St George, plus they take advantage of us. It’s unfair beyond the normal incompetence

So if this goes through and St. George wins.. what is the immediate impact?
I’m sure our property taxes will increase. But what more can we expect with our tax dollars now going to this newly found city?

And I do no blame St. George for being pissed off and wanting out.
But they are not getting out. They never were part of Baton Rouge. They are staying in EBR parish as their own city, they just won't have their money stolen from Baton Rouge anymore through the Mayor/President.

Absolutely this.
The crux of this whole tax issue is the comingling of EBR Parish and City of BR budgets.
What should happen is:
St George keeps a portion of their tax dollars, and in exchange, has to provide a portion of government services. So EBR parish loses revenue, but also cuts expenses.
What actually happens because of consoidated goverment is:
Consolidated EBR / City of BR loses tax dollars, but the tax dollars they are losing is more than the expenses that will be cut.
This is a huge complaint for the St George people... that they are funding more than the services they are getting.
And the city of BR people are saying... you are completely correct... tough titties, we need the money more than you do.
That's the best explanation I have seen on it. The irony of the City of BR's argument that St. George wouldn't fiscally viable is great, considering the money from St George is the only thing balancing their budget currently. I am also interested to see what happens with the what should be roughly $200 Million that should have been owed to St George since 2019.

Immediately there not be any changes in our property taxes. Those taxes all go to the parish, parish wide services like BREC, and the Sheriff, the EBRSS, and to the fire service provider.
The revenues collected by ST George will mainly come from sales taxes we already pay to EBR, and from other sources. The idea is to direct all that money to improve the quality of life in SG.
SG would be responsible for upkeep if local streets, traffic signals, cleaning ditches, picking up litter and trash, striping local streets, and public safety.
The idea is instead of sending our tax dollars to City Hall and then begging for services, we could do it ourselves better.

I’m sure that bought a lot of catered lunches for SWB.

No BR wouldn't be able to sustain without St. George Taxes

Given all the tires dumped everywhere, I’m thinking a dump would be better organized.

The city of BR should not care at all about the finances of the city of St George.
That discussion should not even be allowed in court.
It would be like the city of Kenner caring about the city of Houston.

start by dismantling the consolidated city-parish government.
I think that has been the long play all along. Central, Zachary, Baker incorporating was easier because they already had fire and police in place. Maybe St George needs to start up a police force.

Zachary was incorporated in 1889
Baker was incorporated in 1944
The first part of consolidated government was in 1947 and further consolidation in the 80s.
So really we only have Central to look at. Central didn’t have their own police force before they incorporated, and they were serviced by EBRSO - the same as St. George.
