So why are you against a legal vote for people to incorporate?

She has never said she's against it. She lives in BR but she agrees that it was a legal vote and that it's justified and should happen.

As someone else mentioned earlier, they should have given St. George the school they wanted. Instead they stuck to their guns and made that entire area (which is pretty large) settle for Woodlawn.

Yep.

A lot of this comes down to the EBR school board and certain members of the legislature telling St George to frick off rather than working with them.

EBR school board refused to reform and told the petitioners to go form their own school district.

So they tried that and SWB and others told them to form their own city to secure funding.

So they did that and they got sued and we are here now.

Would you like to see my tax bill? I'm thoroughly bent over when that time comes. All I ask of the city is for my garbage to be picked up on time

This is the simplest but truest explanation at it's core. They said to do it. We did it. Then they said "Wait, you can't ACTUALLY do it..."

Yep.

Kyle brought capitalism to Cuba and shoveled the front drive yet still wasn’t allowed to attend the Raging Pussies concert.

Yep.

As I mentioned the 70810 zip code is the wealthiest in EBR. Add them to the other zips in St George and they could form one heck of an ISD with the property taxes they pay.

Instead they got told “frick you, your entire area will be stuck will the one school y’all have (Woodlawn) and we will continue to milk you as our cash cow.”

At least Mayor Kip Holden understood this. Broome wouldn’t. So as Eric Cartman like to say, St. George got up and said

I think it went about as well as it could’ve for StG. Let’s hope for a majority.

Don’t act like the city of BR wasn’t doing sketchy stuff.

They started annexing properties left and right into the city of BR to try and kill St. George, after the proposed area was already voted on.

One fight at a time. If StG gets a favorable ruling then that will be the next fight.

Won’t be a fight…

If the case is upheld, all annexations of areas within the petition by BR are null and void.

Pretty sure state law is laid out so that those areas can’t be annexed by anyone else between the start of the petition and its final disposition, with a failed petition, a failed vote, or a successful vote.

Incorrect,,, the property owner starts the process by requesting to be annexed. It cannot be initiated by the city.

He’s got to be talking about the CATS tax where the voters voted no on the CATS tax and they decided to make a special district to get the tax passed.

Fwiw I do choose not to use the school system

If you have kids and they go to private school, yes you did choose.

Br public schools are worthless too, just like the buses, so most people choose not to use them.

If your argument is you don’t choose to pay for taxes to schools bc you don’t have kids, I’d fall in that same boat but that still isn’t the same as paying for a fire and police department that don’t serve the area you live

Here the whole issue it goes back to the city parish form of government.

These need to separate to a parish government. Then a city of BR government.
This way city services are paid for by only the city or taxes are raised inside the city to pay for it.

Services provided by the parish are funded separately.

Now the way BR treated the unincorporated areas shows that the city parish form of government chooses to protect BR first. This should not be the case and is a huge reason why the metro council form of government needs to go.

Zachary and Central would be on board with this.

I’m sure Baker and that fricking waste of life Chauna Banks would fight to keep the CP merger alive.
