Where’d you come up with this idea?

He commented: "I filed HB 269 yesterday. The purpose of the bill is to add 'sexual contact' to the incest statute. Currently, incest only applies in cases of intercourse. So sexual touching/groping by uncles, stepdads or anyone with a familial relationship is not included in incest. My bill makes that kind of sexual contact a Class D Felony, unless the victim is under the age of 12, then it increases the penalty to a Class C Felony.
"During the drafting process, there was an inadvertent change, which struck 'first cousins' from the list of relationships included under the incest statute, and I failed to add it back in. During today's session, I will withdraw HB 269 and refile a bill with the 'first cousin' language intact. The fact that I was able to file a bill, catch the mistake, withdraw the bill and refile within a 24-hour period shows that we have a good system.

its a slippery slope, but 1st cousins arent blood related any more than 167th cousins
You share roughly 12.5% DNA with your 1st cousin. With 4th cousins you share 0-0.8%. 167th you're looking at 0%.
Idk if this is how you cope with being with your 1st cousins or what.

Uh, post a link to that info. That sounds pretty stupid.

Having kids with your first cousin carries similar birth defect risks as having kids at 40. So there is risk along with the weirdness of family functions

It's 2024. "Love is love" is what they say....

Didn't we all come from Adam and Eve?

The weirdest case I've read about was a guy and girl from a relatively small city who met each other while in their 20s.
They hit it off and dated and after a reasonable time decided to get married.
They were both adopted right after birth to different pairs of adoptive parents. One pair of parents did not know the donor. One of the pair did. That pair knew that the guy and girl were fraternal twins adopted out separately and tried to stop the wedding.
The couple did not care. They were in love and wanted to marry.
I don't think there was a legal barrier and don't know how it ended up.

Louisiana
Admittedly it has been a long time since I practiced law in Louisiana, but I recall my Family Law professor, Katherine Spaht, telling us that although marriage between first cousins was not allowed in Louisiana, every time the Legislature met, they would quietly pass a law validating all such marriages that had occurred since the last validation.

I mean it’s weird but there’s no legal reason 1st cousins shouldn’t be able to get it on if they want to

If you have to outlaw it, it means someone has tried at some point.
LA and WV are the butt of a bunch of jokes, but not a lot of these other states.
