Now, with both adoptive parents passing away, no siblings, no wife, and no children, I'm pretty lonely.
For my own mental health, I had to completely disconnect from my dysfunctional family around 30 years ago. We were never really a tight family to begin with. Our situations are different but similar in this regard: Good friends are better companions than family.

I was adopted by my maternal grandmother. My parents were both killed in a car accident two weeks after I turned one year old. My grandmother formally adopted both my brother (he was 2 at the time our parents were killed) and myself.

My wife has a similar story. Found birth parents (divorced). Dad was a pedophile pervert who just wanted money, mother had psych issues, but she did find a brother and they are still close. A shared bond in hating their birth parents. On a sad note, her adoptive parents were only marginally better. Not perverts or crazy, just mean and controlling. She had a Cinderella type childhood.

My son is adopted. We were in birthing room when his bio mom had him. He’s in kindergarten and we told him about a year ago. He doesn’t really “understand” right now but he’ll know as he gets older. Still keep up with bio mom on Facebook.

If there is a #1 then there’s probably a close 2nd.
Think I heard some old guy named Nick from Alabama say that.

I am not adopted but me and my wife are adoptive parents of a beautiful 8 1/2 year old daughter. We adopted her when she was 13 days old.
She has asked about her birth mom and we have told her who she is and that she also has an older brother(3 years older). She has known that she's adopted since she was very young. It's kind of obvious, LOL.
I'm sure as she gets older she'll want to know more about her birth mom and older brother.
ETA:GFY serial downvoter.

I am. I would never consider looking for my birth parents. I was 14 days old at adoption. My parents were, are and always will be the ones who raised me.
My older brother is also adopted (we have no blood relation). He did have interest in finding his birth parents at one time. Being adopted used to bother him for some reason. He felt like he was unwanted. I myself do not understand that train of thought.

My nephew was given up for adoption. He met my sister and his half-siblings a few years ago. I'm quite certain he was not impressed by their trailers and drug habits.

Kudos to your mom for not aborting you.
Seriously. I imagine that was more common back then.

Yeah people can be really shitty. My adopted family tried to keep me from being a pall bearer at it grandmother's funeral. I was told that only biological grandkids were allowed. I will never forget how hurt I was when they pulled that shite. I did it anyway and dared them to try and stop me.
Disgusting. I’m sorry they said this to you.

Sounds like being put up for adoption was the best outcome you could have hoped for.

Some were upset that I inherited my mother's full share of the family farm, instead of splitting evenly with cousins

I'm 37 and up until about a few years ago, I had the exact same mindset as you. I liked not knowing my biological family history, thinking I had a clean slate on life. My mom and dad that raised me are my parents and always will be. Nothing can or will change that, and they know that too.
Not until recently I realized I HAD to find my biological parents for one reason: family medical history. I have two young girls and if there's some preventative steps I can take to prolong my life with them on this planet, I'd be doing my girls and me a disservice to not turn over every rock to make that happen.
Fast forward to last week, I found my biological father and am in the process of tracking down my biological mother.

I admire all the adopted posters on here sharing their experience. Were all dealt a hand in life and glad to hear you’ve all made the best of it.

when I was in high school I was with my pal, George and we were standing outside a corner drug store. George was a blonde headed guy and a lady walked up and she looked at George and said, "you look just like your father."
George said no, my dad has black hair. She responded, "I meant your real dad." Turns out his black haired dad had adopted him after marrying his mom. George went off the deep end , drinking and fighting til he finished high school.
He finally turned it around after joining the army. He later said to me he wished they had told him about his adoption when he was young.

Similar story happened to my ex-wife. When she was 16, she ran into some old lady who said, "You're X's daughter!" My ex says, "No, my dad is Y and my mom is Z" The old lady says, "I know. I went to school with your mom and you dad is X". She goes home corners her mom who tells her that she and X dated in high school, they got married (shotgun) and it lasted only a year after my ex was born. When my ex was 3, her mom married who my ex thought was her dad, he adopted her and they got a new birth certificate made showing that he was her dad (They did that shite in the 60'). Her mom was never going to tell her who her biological dad was. She ended up having a relationship with her biological dad and he was a pretty cool guy.

That's why I reached out to my bio dad. I did talk to his parents (my grandparents) They said, "You aint ours. He said you aint. We got to take his part." THat's some real Oklahoma shite right there!
They were alive and healthy in their 70s, so that's all I need to know I guess. People are stupid.
