he young guy didn't even know how to use a shovel. I asked him how that was possible, and he told me that he grew up very poor,
Yeah he was full of shite and you fell for it.
That really does stink though that baw is fcked up on drugs so bad that he couldn't help an old man with some repairs.

I can relate my dad has real bad fibromyalgia as well as anxiety, depression with a bad back but I can see his body breaking down more over the years

No, I pretty much knew how it was gonna be, as soon as I saw him, but you do what you have to do for your friends.

My dad is 83, gets lost in my house, and has no clue who my wife and kids are.
Your dad isn’t old.
Edit: he also says the n-word a lot now. I live in Atlanta, sooooooooooooooo that’s a whole thing.

My dad died at 56 so consider yourself lucky that you have to experience something as “weird” as continuing to have time with your dad

Bruh, enjoy him in that still functional state. I haven't had to deal with bad mental decline like a lot of other people have, but my old man was completely disabled most of this year before he passed.

58 isn’t an old man. Maybe he needs to see a doctor.

58? That’s still young.

Had a similar realization ab a year ago and have continued to have it. A little ahead of you I’m 30 and my dads 62. We’ve always been close, only son always been him and I working around the house. Coming back spending weekends here to help when I wasn’t close in college and soon after. Now live just 7 minutes away and we’re close as we’ve ever been. But I’m the same, always saw him the same as I did towards the end of high school age.
About a year ago we’re outside building a shed for him. My dad and I, my uncle and cousin. His brother is ab 10 years older than he and has some health issues so he’s slowed down manual labor wise awhile ago. For forever my dad has been able to outwork me. I remember kids talking about I lifted more than my dad ect. Never was even close to able to do that lol. Well working on that shed for the first time I noticed him taking more breaks me. As more time goes on I’m noticing more and more examples of it. Just all part of the ride I guess, but it sure sucks.
Since that time we’ve lost my grandmother and my mom has taken a turn for the worse with her MS. I’ve struggled a lot the past year with the extended family dynamic changing. Only tips I’ve got is be present as much as you can and savor every second. One day you won’t be able to get it back.

I just notified my kids that I am no longer in the furniture moving business. But they are welcome to use my truck.

How big of a baw is he? You shouldn’t be winded like that at 58
Posted on 11/11/23 at 7:24 pm to Pelican fan99
Getting winded like that.. sounds like he may have a heart issue. I know from personal experience.

I am 75
Getting old is a bitch
Half of your high school friends have died
Make it to 85 and 15 people will show up at your funeral
To help me, motor home and offshore boat was sold.
Harley was converted to a three wheeler so I did not fall over at stop signs
I enjoy cooking, housecleaning, yard maintenance because I feel useful
Car is a minivan for access , yet can never go on beach sand without stuck
I spend way to much time on tiger dropping because it is a mental stimulant
I avoid opioids because they cause constipation.
Delta 8 gummies are a sleep relief
there are a lot of young bucks that try to push me around
there are a lot of very nice people that offer to assist at grocery
there are a lot of scams to take money away from elderly
knee replacement are easy, rehab is a bitch
the recliner in front of the 75 inch tele is a death machine
there was a conservative woman speaker two weeks ago that said "life is tough, get a helmet". Great advice, I wear my motor cycle helmet about half the time when riding

addendum.........My father as he got older, was grumpy and argumentative. It was because he lost his hearing, could not participate in conversations, thought people were keeping secrets. He was not mad, he could not hear.

It is hard to watch actually.

My dad is 72 and still very active.
In the last 4 years he’s fallen off of ladders roofs and keeps kicking.
He’d probably still kick my arse today.

I have almost the same story but unloading cattle feed. I was 18 and dad ask me to help. He was watching more than unloading. I made a commitment being a smart arse and I knew by his response something wasn’t right.
He had 90% blockages in multiple arteries….
Tell him to get checked out
