My dad killed a deer today and as I’m helping him skin it out, he just takes a break and I can tell he’s a little winded, so I keep going. After a second he just told me to finish it which was no problem, but looking back on it it’s the first time my ole man has ever bowed out on cleaning his own buck. only 29 and he’s 58 and I guess I still sort of looked at him like I did when I was in high school since that was the last time I’d spent every day around him, and today was an odd feeling. Seeing him as an old man instead of my dad who could do anything, at least in my eyes. Idk where I’m going with this so I’ll stop now but has anyone else felt this about one of their parents?

Your father is about my age.
You need to have him go to the doctor, he should not be out of breath that bad.
Get his heart checked. Seriously.

58? That’s still young!

Try when he’s in his 70s.

My dad is doing okay at 65, but my wife’s father is 75 with Alzheimer’s and it’s brutal. It’s just a sudden transformation from doing alright to old, frail, and deteriorated. Scares the shite out of me, honestly.

Yes. It’s a strange thing and feeling the first time you notice it. What’s worse is now you will only notice it more and more.

What if the deer had brass knuckles? Or a baseball bat?

My mom had really bad sciatica when i visited last summer. She was having so much trouble walking. I cried so hard that night before i left bc i had never seen ANYTHING hurt her like that. Fortunately she’s done a lot of therapy and it’s really helped.

it wasn’t anything too serious. He could’ve jumped back in but just noticed I’d already pulled the rest of the hide off in the couple minutes he took to relax and just had me Debone it, he should’ve just took his jacket off before we started because it was pretty warm by then. He gets check ups every 6 months so he should be good.

It is very weird. I was watching an old video my dad took about 15 years ago and he is talking and I don’t even recognize his voice. He sounds more like me than what he sounded like as of recent, which is more like an old man. I thought something was wrong with the sound of the video and then came to the sad realization that it was just that his voice had aged.

I’m 66. My son is 40 or so. I wish I could become an old respected man in his eyes.

He will go crossways with me on anything. Hopefully I will go soon and won’t wish for anything better in between us any longer. I’m tired of hoping.

Yes it is.

My wife will be losing her mom. Probably in a few hours. She lived a long healthy life and bam. A stroke turned her instantly into a nursing home patient.

I am seeing my parents slow down. It’s not fun. Nothing bad yet. Just slowing down. Lack of confidence in things my dad once knew cold. Simple woodworking. I now have a shop and all of his tools since they moved closer. It’s my house but he’s dad. I’ve told him ad nauseum. “Dad it’s your shop too. Stop asking. It’s full of your stuff. Just come over when you want to tinker. We are at work. Nobody will be bothered. “ he has to wait for me to be off. Far cry from the guy who would not pick a DIY job to death and made me quit more than once. Lol

There’s a 15K here in Birmingham. It’s more of a dare than a race. Extremely difficult race and 90% of the field are well beyond your charity 5K type.

Anyway, there’s a 1/4 mile flat stretch to the finish and I managed to pass the two people in front of me. In reviewing the results, I noticed that one of the guys I passed was fricking 72! His race photo looked like a Tom Sellek shoot from GQ. Contrast that with my 78 yr old mother who struggles to go to the mailbox.

I’ve made up my mind to age as well as possible. Neither of my parents have managed their health well in their later years.

I’m your dads age. I know I’m declining and am ok with it . I’ve got 2 sons your age. They hunt with me. I need their help more now. I use to be able to lift an elephant and work all day.

Your dad is probably ok with it too. It’s the cycle of
Life and most important for me is a real relationship with Jesus makes dealing with aging Aok!

What's weird is when you realize that you are now the age your parents were when you considered them old.

My mom is almost 87 and didn't really act old until about 3 years ago. But the downward slide has been significant lately.

I'm 57 and can easily do anything a teenager can. He may have other issues.

Your dad doesn't sound old as much as out of shape. Tell him to stop sitting on his arse and exercise.
