New pads and rotors $450 per axel... I took my car in for rear brakes.. I asked them to do an oil change while it was in.. They ended having to replace one of the calipers... Total cost was $767... Freakin oil change was $90... Later I found another place that charges $400 per axel...

just use a big pair of channel locks. I taught my 20 year old daughter (no pics) to change the pads on her Honda in the driveway. Rotors that aren't grooved or glazed badly don't need replacing. Even if they do, on most cars. 2 bolts to remove the caliper bracket and the rotor will fall off. In the old days they had pita retention bolts that required an impact screwdriver to remove. Most nowadays just use the lugs

They probably didn’t actually have time so if they were gonna make it happen with a packed schedule, they just told you an amount that was crazy so if you wanted to then they would make a bunch of money, if not then it was ok too

A universal caliper piston reset tool is $36. I just did all four brakes, oil change, tire rotation and changed the front wheel hub for $600 on an f-150. Also had to correct and issue with the 4wd.

Just do it yourself for about $75. Sheesh. I've literally never paid to get my brakes done.

I looked into this a couple of years ago. I was quoted 1300 dollars at a tire service place. The neighborhood mechanic charged about half that.

You need to be careful using a C-clamp when pushing the caliper piston back on some vehicles. The anti-lock and traction control modules can be damaged by forcing fluid backwards into them. GM recommended the use of a scan tool to open the solenoids before resetting pistons.
When I have used a C-clamp, I would momentarily open the bleeder screw when tightening the clamp to relieve the some of the pressure in the line.
I know a lot of people don't do this, but when a manufacturer puts a caution in bold print in their maintenance manual, there is usually a good reason for it.

The 2% statement is indicative of a rip off in the works. Who says that?

You did the right thing.

It takes me 15 minutes to change my oil. It would take me all afternoon to do a brake job

Id rather just pay a baw $300 to do it

Most shops use Mitchell or some type of guide that tells you how much a job should be labor & parts.

Something not right if it’s just changing the pads for that price.

This is 100% not true. All rotors have a minimum safe thickness and you also neglected the possibility of them being warped which often goes along with thin (low mass) rotors.
