When you say "brakes" are we just talking pads? Need new rotors? Rotors and pads? Turn the rotors and new pads?

Called around this morning and have been quoted $300.00-$450.00...

That's still too high for most brake jobs. I understand that most charge that, but damn......they make a killing on those jobs.

How hard is it to change rotors on your own? Very easy. Pull up youtube video and follow along. Not much to it at all.

That's about right. Paid $800 for mine in July.

You should change out your blinker fluid also.

If you're talking just brake work for mechanical work at 800, that's more like 400 an hour for changing everything.

I think it was like $150 an hour and they gave an estimate of 5 hours and then taxes or whatever fees were added in, so it came out to like $800. This was just to change the brakes and rotors on 4 tires.

For what sounds like your first time doing brakes, did it even take you 5 hours to complete?

My son and I changed pads and rotors on his truck for less than $200 because we are men. LMAO at paying a rando immigrant $800 to do that job. May as well have him come in your house and service your wife.

Dad? Is that you?

How hard is it to change rotors on your own? I just had to get brakes and rotors done in the front of my sons vehicle and it was $600. I’m ready to start learning how to do this shite

I’m not an expert mechanic or anything, but I can complete a full brake job (rotors/pads) in about 3 hours using jacks and stands in the garage. Cost around $200 last year on a suburban. If you have any sort of mechanical aptitude you can do it. If not, just leave it to the pros. It’s not something you have to get done often unless your wife likes to slam on the brakes instead of gradually slowing down.

For just pads that seems high unless those pads are unique to a mfg like Bendix made for xyz vehicle.

As far as pushing the air out of the brake line, here's my method. Open the brake fluid reservoir cap, then push the caliper piston all the way in using a clamp and the old brake pad. Install new pads and put everything back together. Close reservoir cap.

Seems to work as I've done about 4-5 brake jobs and haven't had any issues.

Is that right or is there a better way?

LOL!! I put a set of new ceramic pads on the rear of my car last month. 45 bucks and an hour of time.

800 dollars?? Bring it to me next time. I’ll fit you in for 600.

They are full of shite because if they really needed replacing they would have also told her "it will be a good idea to go ahead and change your rotors as well"

If you knew how to do it you could go to O'Reilly's and get them for about $100.

Why is there air in your lines?? If there was air in it.. the pedal would hit the floor when you mashed the brakes.
