I think it was like $150 an hour and they gave an estimate of 5 hours and then taxes or whatever fees were added in, so it came out to like $800. This was just to change the brakes and rotors on 4 tires.

I’m not an expert mechanic or anything, but I can complete a full brake job (rotors/pads) in about 3 hours using jacks and stands in the garage. Cost around $200 last year on a suburban. If you have any sort of mechanical aptitude you can do it. If not, just leave it to the pros. It’s not something you have to get done often unless your wife likes to slam on the brakes instead of gradually slowing down.

For just pads that seems high unless those pads are unique to a mfg like Bendix made for xyz vehicle.

As far as pushing the air out of the brake line, here's my method. Open the brake fluid reservoir cap, then push the caliper piston all the way in using a clamp and the old brake pad. Install new pads and put everything back together. Close reservoir cap.
Seems to work as I've done about 4-5 brake jobs and haven't had any issues.
Is that right or is there a better way?

LOL!! I put a set of new ceramic pads on the rear of my car last month. 45 bucks and an hour of time.

If you knew how to do it you could go to O'Reilly's and get them for about $100.

Why is there air in your lines?? If there was air in it.. the pedal would hit the floor when you mashed the brakes.
