Why did you not catch this before they got down to 2%, or even close to 2%?
If the pads were that thin, the rotors probably needed to be turned or changed.

I got this electric impact wrench at Harbor Freight for $45. I have also used it to get oil filter off from underneath my SUV after a oil change business torqued it too tight.
Then I bought a 3 ton jack there that was on sale for $125.
My first time doing it I had a hard time figuring out how the calipers work, but after that it was about an hour per tire to do the rotor and brakes.

I was up sold brakes when wife was taking car on road trip to Atlanta. Elected to go with the worst worn side. Front I believe. Anyway a year later, I’m at the dealership and they hit me up for brakes. I’m like “yeah I only did the front half”. They say “no, those are the bad ones”.
After market brakes are trash. Stick with oem.

Even changing the calipers is an easy job. I don't know if I'm poor or just too cheap, but I have never paid a dime to anyone else for labor on anything to do with changing brakes.

Just got a price here in Cypress, Tx. $425, turn rotors, replace pads. Front only. Flush fluid system. Nissan Armada 2018.

I only make $60 an hour and the local mechanic was wanting to charge $800 in labor, so I did the math and realized me doing it for $60 an hour while working from home was better than paying someone $200 an hour to do it.

I just paid $300 for just the parts on a 4Runner. My son & uncle did the work. Sounds about right if its brakes and rotors.

Front Pads are easy, Autozone has them for 35-40 bucks and its a 30 minute job.
All brake places will tell you your rotors need turned and this that and whatever else.

If you're talking just brake work for mechanical work at 800, that's more like 400 an hour for changing everything.

What is actually wrong with your brakes?
Is it just the pads?
Do you have water in your brake fluid and does it need to be flushed?
Do you need caliper’s and or rotors?
Do you just need your rotors machined?
Cost can vary from just slapping on pads to changing out everything.

Initially I was too cheap to buy the tools, but once I realized I could buy the tools and do it myself at a cheaper rate than paying someone to do it was when I decided to do it myself.

I think it was like $150 an hour and they gave an estimate of 5 hours and then taxes or whatever fees were added in, so it came out to like $800. This was just to change the brakes and rotors on 4 tires.

Biden should have said “learn to repair gas powered vehicles” instead of learn to code.
Btw-I replaced clock spring, wiper motor, changed brake pads, changed oil…all this year. Shops just want too damn much and want your vehicle for a week just to diagnose.

It’s incredibly simple. Actually, a lot of auto repair is. Most people would rather pay than be inconvenienced, though.
And I’m not even saying that’s wrong.
