Giannis Antetokounmpo has agreed on a three-year, $186 million contract extension, sources tell ESPN.
Deal includes a player option on the 2027-2028 season, sources tell ESPN.
That player option is for the year after the last pick they owe us.

Here is the breakdown on the Giannis extension in Milwaukee:
25-26 $57,604,893
26-27 $62,213,285
27-28 $66,821,676-Player Option
The $57.6M salary in 2025-26 replaces a $51.5M player option.
The extension is based on the salary cap increasing 10% in 2024-25 and 2025-26.

I still don’t think this makes a difference in the picks. If they suck, he’ll leave. This just means he’ll leave by trade and not free agency. If they’re good then he’ll stay

I do think Giannis is a little different in regards to demanding trades like some of these other superstars. The foreign born superstars seem a bit more loyal and don’t really go out and demand trades. Luka, Jokic and Embiid come to mind. Basically what Im saying is I highly doubt he would ask for a trade, rather than stay through his contract and then decide.

Makes him easier to trade. If they suck he will ask for a trade and now they get more value for him than they would have because he’s locked in longer.
Makes no difference to us.

Milwaukee put every bit of their hopes on a core of Giannis, Dame, Middleton and Lopez.
Their window is 2 years then they will be looking to dump salary and rebuild. I still think that 27 pick could be a good one

Griffin really fricked up when he didn’t trade Jrue to Atlanta for 6 and Huerter
Huerter and Haliburton Would be Pelicans Right now

Wouldn't him leaving outright via FA cost him a shitload of money? I don't think that would have been a realistic option, and I don't think that this really changes much.

Yeah but giving up a 1st for a center that can’t play in the playoffs and a guard who forgot how to play basketball, while then having to give up another first to get rid of them the next year was better.

Yeah. Guys don't really move in FA anymore. They get the contract and then ask out if they want. Giannis can still ask for a trade. This contract extension doesn't change that.
the Buck have about a 2 year window. Dame, Middleton and Lopez are getting OLD.

Still doesn’t mean he can’t force his way out before then.
Look at Dames.

Our draft picks besides Trey and Herb have fricking sucked. Sure it would be nice to have better picks but we don’t do shite with them anyway.

Dame 33
Lopez 35
Middleton 32
Giannis and the Bucks barring a miracle won't be a contender for long with that being the bulk of the supporting cast and salary cap.
Short term Pels draft rights took a hit but the Pelicans can still get a decent return at the tail end of that trade
