I imagine a lot of that was stuff like Vidalia to Natchez or Bogalusa to Poplarville

You rarely hear about the hill country or parts of Texas west of Austin which is some really pretty cool places.

Between Austin and San Angelo there's literally nothing unless you're into oil and livestock.

I hope the majority of that 105K were on welfare. Good riddance.

People on welfare don’t have the means or desire to move. The vast majority of these moving are productive citizens.

Continuing that trend, the second most popular state for people leaving Louisiana was another neighboring state: Mississippi. About 10,000 former Louisiana residents went east,

It’s all the people leaving GNO for the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Hopefully they don’t try to “New Orleans” it.

Exactly. These are mostly college graduates or middle class people. LA isn't dumping its ghettos into Mississippi.

I can’t speak for all of LA, but based on property prices in the NOLA metro and Northshore my guess is there’s probably some truth to it being lower income residents.

Obviously not entirely, and maybe not the case in other parts of the state.

Why on Earth would anyone want to live in East Texas?

It's a lot like Louisiana but with better government.

Oh my goodness I bet you are a blast at parties...you are such a misguided individual to allow a political representative of your geographical location to have any effect whatsoever on the level to which you enjoy your life. You have been infected sir, I hope you find the care you desperately need.

Well one group loves warfare and tyranny. The other group are hired stage artists masquerading as government leaders who are about 2 generations behind the other group.

Or it's just that people from Louisiana are, statistically speaking, less wealthy, and can therefore only afford less dramatic moves to similar cost of living areas.

Considering we are last in everything, this would translate into this as well.

At least they are making a change. This place won't get better.

Louisiana has 2x the GDP as Mississippi.

So when people are moving to MS it isn't likely due to income earning opportunities it is purely for improved quality of life.

And when you are moving to Mississippi to improve your quality of life, that is a stunning indictment on the way things are in Louisiana.

Land is relatively cheap, cheap private education, low crime (outside of Jackson, which nobody is moving to), low taxes (phasing out income taxes), low traffic (even in populated areas) and no influx of liberals like TN, FL and TX. Also have pretty descent hunting, and much better golf than LA. I can see why we rag them so much. You are right. Sounds awful.
