Tennessee

No state income tax, good terrain (read: areas which won't flood #2016PTSD), above the frost line and lots of very sparsely populated rural lands. If the wife (nopics) and I don't retire to family land in North La, Tennessee (especially the NE area) is where I wouldn't mind going.

It seems to me that Louisianians really love Louisiana. They’re deeply tied to the land and their families. They’re frustrated with the economic and crime situation and don’t leave unless they feel “forced” out. When they do leave, they tend to try to keep one foot there because they don’t want to have to construct a whole new identity and social network in a new place when they’re so deeply rooted to the place they grew up.

If Louisiana has a semi-functional economy, no one born here would ever leave.

Well most people typically need a job when they move. Not sure of the corporate opportunities in the hill country.

There are plenty of remote job opportunities in today's work from home environment.

Something seems to be wrong with Louisiana. Obviously there are people on this board who know a lot more about that than me but the data is startling.

It's the only state among the top net domestic migration losers that doesn't fit a very specific profile. Every other "SEC state" is crushing it except for Mississippi. Even with MS, they're treading water more than they are bleeding people like Louisiana.

Half our state is sinking, 1/3 of our population is functionally illiterate, we’ve had 8 years of a democratic governor who hates the state’s largest private employer industries, and our population tends to be the most collectivist and economically left wing in the country while having the most incompetent government services imaginable.

We had a guy on the Scoreboard board last night trying to make the case that JBE has been a great governor. Just look at stats like these and see what an outlier Louisiana is compared to the rest of the south. It’s shocking.

You should know better. This board hates remote work.

It’s much more difficult to list what’s right.

Extremely high local taxes
Worst public education system in the country
Worst crime in the country
Prone to weather disasters
Horrible job diversity

It’s basically impossible to make a case for a highly educated person to move here.

Louisiana is like Russia, except very hot instead of very cold. The youth are leaving both in droves. So there goes all the educated people. Bunch of murderous lunatics in both. Corruption, poverty, etc. The future for both is very bleak. I prolly need to get the hell outta here soon.
