Public schools should allow prayer by students and faculty if they so choose.

However the school itself should not discourage or encourage prayer. It’s not the governments place to do that. The goal of school is education. They should teach theology classes so students can know and understand the different religions

It’s the parents job to raise their kids to be religious if that’s what they want. Not the governments. If the parents want their kids to go to a Christian school then send them to a private school that offers that environment

We say the Pledge every morning at my school - however, most of my students don't participate. I think they think its uncool or something.

It’s changing the jungle primary so Republicans can stop shooting themselves in the fricking foot every election cycle.

This is why some people have a hard time backing conservatives....all the issues with Louisiana and you want his big stand to be some political stunt that will amount to something most kids ignore?

I went to catholic school and prayed and said pledge everyday...by 2nd grade we had done it so often that usually I'd go into auto-pilot and just about blank out during it

The same school that can’t teach my kid basic math or how many genders there are is the school you want leading prayer?

Well then share your opinion fella?

You can be pro-prayer and pro-religion, while also realizing that prayer in school is a bad idea.

This will fix a lot of issues in Louisiana
No, I won't. Saying a prayer will do absolutely zero when the parents don't care about their children's education or provide a stable home life.

Why don’t you have a seat and let the adults talk. Thanks.

It amazes me how many religious people push for prayer in school and can't connect the dots on how this is a horrible idea.

It's so myopic that they think "religion" equals their religion and "prayer" equals their prayers.

exactly. its much better to never open that door period. we wont always be in charge

also amazes me how many anti government people have no problem sending their kids to government schools and then get mad with the way they are taught.

if you are anti-gov or conservative stop sending your kids to government run schools.

Setting aside the “Which of the other amendments do you want scrapped?” issue, what is there about our education system that gives you confidence in the idea of them leading any kind of prayer initiative?

Exactly.

My concern is actually not with any specific issue. It’s the complete lack of “thought through” logic used by voters. Far too many just go with knee-jerk tribal bullshite.

First order of action is to get us into a losing court case. Nice. I guess that would actually make sense, given what he's "accomplished" as AG.

Actually it should be on the list. There’s something to be said about having hand over heart every morning song with prayer.

It's weird that they don't do this anymore in a lot of school systems. All of my kids' schools here in Alabama do it.

We do the pledge followed by a moment of silence here in our school (south GA). Also have routine “prayer at the pole (flagpole)” mornings usually sponsored by FCA or local churches.

Our state is in the midst of an economic death spiral. 1/3 of the state is uninsurable because it has become unfeasible to protect it from regular flooding, let alone completely sliding into the Gulf of Mexico. What few jobs we have left for young people pay 30-50% less than the same job does one state over, and our 3 largest cities just so happen to be 3 of the 10 most dangerous in the country despite us leading the entire world in incarceration rate. We have dozens of bridge crossings sitting closed because DOTD can’t find the money to repair them, we drive on thousands of defective bridges daily which are a still wind from collapse, and one of the most highly trafficked interstates in the nation goes down to one lane within sight of the state capital building. New Orleans is another month of drought away from losing its supply of freshwater, which is already polluted FAR worse than Flint, MI’s ever was.

Yeah, the real problem is kids not praying enough before high school football games.

Uh yeah, this state has higher priorities. Send your kids to private school FFS. And there is the Pledge of Allegiance in school already is there not?

And which prayer?
