I tore my meniscus in high school during a game, had surgery the following week and was playing 6 weeks later with me doing my own PT. Surely no more than 6-8 weeks

In an update from Woj about 30 mins ago he says if surgery is required it would likely sideline Murphy for first few months of season . Let’s hope we get some good fortune here and he avoids it

But I’m hopeful, as long he doesn’t have a Jaren Jackson Jr type meniscus injury (he was out for a long time)

Yea, reading up on that JJJ one makes me worry a bit more.

They were pretty vague it seems on the JJJ injury but never confirmed ACL was involved, and he still missed 9 months. But again, they were vague and never mentioned if he had setbacks or whatever, so who really knows but that's wayyyyy longer than you'd assume it should take.

That sucks. Potentially if he gets surgery he would return in January 2024 then. Not good.

It all depends on what type of surgical intervention they choose to proceed with. If it is a meniscectomy (take out the tear) then it will be a 4-8 week injury, unless you are being rehabbed by Aaron Nelson and your name is Zion. JJJ and Russell Westbrook both had meniscus repair surgery where they reattach the tear. This normally comes with an immobilization and non weight bearing period that lasts between 4-6 weeks. It is a much longer recovery.

I really don't want to hear that they are going to go non surgical for a month and waste a month before proceeding with surgery. I hope he has whatever he is going to have done tomorrow and he can begin the rehab.

I'm sure most have seen the tweets already but I guess there's something basically called a full meniscus repair that I was unaware of.

If that is needed, it's 4-6 months.

Yeah thats what I was referring to before you basically stated incorrectly that 6 weeks was the max. I doubt its 6 months but pels havent told us anything.

As long as it's just the MCL

Who said anything about an MCL tear? Every report has been a meniscus injury.

Per Chris Dodson on Twitter
REPORT: Hearing it's nowhere near the worst-case scenario. Trey Murphy III "will be fine" is the word.

Going on history, I'd expect Trey to get another scan before training camp just to be on the safe side. However, I think Pelicans fans can breathe easy on this one. #Pelicans

He is followed by David griffin so I’m gonna assume he has reliable information

He's hot and cold. More of a fan. Let's hope he is right this time.

That hurts but if we can get him back by Dec 1st then we are fine. We can figure out the first month of the season.

WOJ just said Trey has a slight tear and team is weighing the options. He's going to be out months or weeks based on the decision

For the season a repair is better but you wonder if for his career a full scale surgery with longer recovery is better. I think he’ll choose the shorter recovery surgery but I also think Trey is a huge part of the future and I would want him to stay injury free for years not just this season.

The best case scenario never happens for this team when it comes to injury. Just take the longer but surer path now rather than 6 weeks from now.
