re: Is there a way that Zion and Queen can co-exist?

Future is no Zion and Queen at the 4
Queen has played almost exclusively at the 5. I'd like to see what Zion and Queen look like together (preferably with a new coach).
Willie is killing us with no Jose down the stretch. I said it last night, if we want to win, Jose has to play.
I really wouldn't mind seeing Queen playing with Zion a lot more over the next few weeks. We have to see if they can play together. Queen and Zion can both pass which could make for some interesting 4/5 pick and roll actions. Queen's passing ability forces him to be guarded away from the goal even though he isn't much of a shooter. Plus, I think Queen is our best rebounder. I really see no reason to start Yves next to Zion instead of Queen.
It was also nice to see Jose closing. Jordan Poole is not a winning player. If we want to win, Jose has to play more.

I'll say it again, if this team wants to win games, then Jose has to be a big part of it. Jose didn't see the floor in the first game against Memphis. Unbelievable.
How bad has Poole been to start this game? I can’t believe I started to buy into he wasn’t a loser.

A couple of things about tonight:
We waited until the 4th qtr to involve Zion in the offense consistently. It’s mind boggling. He had 3fga and 0fts at half. He wasn’t involved at all in actions with Trey or Poole. I just don’t get it. Our offensive efficiency skyrockets when he is involved consistently.
Our center position is terrible. We get killed constantly. Yves had two huge fumbles where he just couldn’t catch.
Trey Murphy has to be better. Kawhi killed him in the fourth. Now, I would have put Zion on Kawhi and Trey on Zubac. But Willie gonna Willie.

Our center position has now cost us two wins. 2-3 is a lot different than 0-5. We really do have the worst center rotation in the NBA.
His fate was sealed when he decided to start Fears and Jordan last night. You could tell the team was not behind those decisions.
re: Herb is nothing more than a situational defender

I guess all the guys whose career it is to cover the nba and the gms around the league that think DD is the best perimeter defender in the league are wrong
You do realize that Herb was first team all defense the year we traded Dyson? He was the only non big defender on that all defense team literally making him the best perimeter defender in the league. It's like Herb got injured and some people forgot what he is capable of.
It was impossible to play Herb and Dyson together for long stretches because they are both limited offensively. Herb was under contract and is now extended at literally half of what Dyson will want on his next contract. Dyson was always going to get traded. From a team building standpoint, keeping the $15 million All Defense perimeter defender makes much more sense than the $30 million one. If you want to complain about the return, especially with the injury, that is a different argument.
Didn’t get to watch tonight. Some observations from the box score:
Zion seems to have played well, 18pts on 9/11 with 5 rebounds and 6 assists in 22min.
Trey shot the ball well. 4/8 from 3 and 7/14 overall.
Poole seemed to have a good night. Got to the ft line and had 22 points.
Zion and Trey combined for 25 fga and 0 fta. How is that possible?
Zion, Trey, Herb, and Poole all had positive +/-. Herb was -11. Jordan Hawkins unsurprisingly was a team worst -21.
We shot sub 30% again from 3. We also shot 15 less fts than the Magic. Can’t win games like that.
Hopefully, Zion, Trey, Poole continue to build on tonight. We need Herb to get back to himself, we may be putting too much ball handling responsibility on him. We have to shoot better to be a winning basketball team. We also have to get to the ft line more. Can’t survive many games with Zion and Trey getting zero fta.

I think you are underrating Jose and greatly overrating Peavy. Jose has been a net positive player from day 1 and has had real interest from playoff teams (Milwaukee just last year). Peavy is an unproven mid second round pick. I would say he has no value other than being a throw in to a deal. If last night is any indication, he will not be in the rotation to begin the season. Hawkins is terrible and should not be in the NBA. He has no value other than his contract.

Once Murray comes back and Fears develops further then there really isn't much space for Jose.
If we want to win games this season then Jose will be important. Fears was not good in the first three quarters when the real NBA guys were playing. He had a stretch in the third quarter when he was on the court with both Zion and Trey and the game was still competitive. He had a bad shot where he did not make a pass and then back to back awful live ball turnovers allowing Houston to score six straight points. To his credit, he did play well in the fourth quarter against the guys that will not be on the court once the regular season starts. Jose will be relied on to help us win games this year. Once Fears develops and becomes a consistently positive player then one of Jose or Dejaunte will need to be moved to balance the roster.
This officiating is awful. The Rockets have shot 22ft's and we have shot 8fts. We have outscored them in the paint. That's fun.

We simply don't have enough shooting if other teams are going to hit 3's.

Again…Hawkins should never play over Jose. Hawk plays like he’s 6’ tall anyway.

Please tell me Jose is sitting tonight. I can’t fathom watching Hawkins play while Jose sits in a real game.

I also explained that it has absolutely nothing to do with offense
Because half of the game occurs on the offensive side of the court. Missi or Looney guarding 4's are that much better defensively that it would make up for the huge limitation on offense compared to someone like Bey or even Matkovitch? Can you show me a single stat that shows Missi is a positive defender? I'm sure you will bring up rim protection with Missi. Then that means you have Looney chasing Naz Reid or similar players instead of Bey or Murphy? We have at least a bottom 3 center rotation in the western conference (there is a strong argument that we have the worst center rotation in the west) and you are advocating to play them both at the same time with Zion. I would bet right now, barring some weird foul situation or injury, we will never see this lineup. It just makes no sense.
We just simply have too many players better than both Missi and Looney to every justify having them both on the court at the same time, especially without Murphy on the floor.

n a situation where we are up 10+ pts this one of the best lineups to close a game.
Again, why would you want to have a lineup that would have a league worst offensive rating in with a lead to close a game? Why would you want three below average free throw shooters in the lineup to close a game? Why would you want two non ball handlers in with a lead when a team is going to crank up the pressure and begin fouling if necessary? What advantage could possibly be achieved by having Missi and Looney on the court together, especially to close a game? I don't think you thought this lineup through at all.

I never want to see this lineup. This would be one of the worst offensive units in the league. Zion with 2 complete zero shooters and 2 other shooters that defenses don't care about. Where would Looney, Missi, and Zion fit together on offense? I get that sometimes we think about theoretical lineup fits but if I was an opposing coach I would be begging the Pelicans to play this lineup. We only get 30min of Zion a night, why would I want to absolutely handcuff him for any of those??

The biggest reason that Griff deserved to lose his job was the center position last year. It was indefensible. Even if healthy, last season was doomed because we had the single worst center rotation in the league. This season, we are going into the season with a bottom 5 center rotation. That isn't going to get it done in the west. It is the single biggest issue with this team and why having that first round d pick would be huge.
