If a church is serious about what it decides are moral rules based in sacred religious texts, then the church should make its decisions based upon the texts and teachings. Popular opinions and social trends should not figure so prominently in the teachings of the church. One powerful aspect of established religions is that they often go against popular trends and adhere to more stable rules.

If the C of E is interested in changing its rules on premarital sex and gay marriage, it should be releasing scholarly work regarding the religious texts, not citing opinion polling. The texts can be interpreted in a manner to expand inclusion for gay people, etc., but opinion polling is not the way to go about it.

The BIBLE gets severely trampled on again !

What is biblically right is now wrong and what is wrong is right....

We are in a dark place of co called Christian, me-ology a religion that says if it makes me/you feel good do it and the hell what the Bible says.

Maybe the Muslims in England will invoke more Muslim sharia law and straighten out those satanic, misguided
sheep.

For better or worse society has accepted homosexuality. You can remain against it but be prepared for empty pew syndrome as fewer and fewer people share your opinion on the matter.

Hmmm … or maybe teaching more traditional values and displaying some commitment to those teachings will attract a dedicated following.

United Methodist Church just did all of this and split apart. My conservative church decided to stay and I left.

Immoral? It's only a matter of time before The Church Of England makes it mandatory.

Good. No one should care what you do in your spare time if it’s not hurting anyone else. End of story.

No, it is not what they are doing... They are going ala-carte with their beliefs in order to conform to society...

Please read more slowly. That comment was aimed at what the public was going to do if the CoE didn't soften its stance on homosexuality.

They are certainly free to do as they wish, but as leaders of a Christian Church, "God said so" should be enough.

I don't think the "reprobate mind" passage was just aimed at religious leaders.

CoE seems to be choosing to try and retain members instead planning to preach to an audience of 10.

I read things just fine.

Funny thing about Religion...those who practice it don't do so because of "opinions"

Anglican priests think church teaching should be brought into line with public opinion on moral issues.

therefore not in line with the word of God? I'm glad to know that these poser priests believe themselves and modern culture dictate what's moral in the eyes of God rather than the actual Word of God, because now I know which poser priests I am to ignore. They represent exactly what the first commandment is all about, because they are putting themselves above God

This belief goes hand in hand with the downfall of Western Civ. Furthermore, if you love someone and are faith-filled, you owe it to them to, kindly but firmly, encourage them to follow God's teachings

While I’m sure there are exceptions, it’s not like I, as a Christian, enjoy saying “haha, this sin I don’t struggle with is bad and you’re condemned because you do.”

It would be way easier to win souls if the Bible was more permissive. But it’s not.

I didn’t see it in the article but I wonder if the question was proposed on premarital heterosexual sex and changing the churches stance on that.

I wouldn’t be that bothered if the % in favor was the same but I’d wager that it’s not.
