Stunned at how poorly a local judge was prepared.

Watched a local judicial Judge try several cases. The Judge seemed like a good natured likeable guy but was totally ignorant of the cases he was trying. He is given pages to read on upcoming cases ( which the court charges thousands of dollars per page). It was obvious he didn’t read these pages beforehand. Attorneys spent many hours preparing for this, not to mention the money it’s costing the citizens involved. The Judge did not render a single decision but sent them off to come back at a later date. One attorney told me unprepared judges are common though some are well prepared. Seems an injustice to all those who took time to show up and get a case fairly tried. Has anyone else on here witnessed this.

When you start viewing the world using the 80/20 rule, you'll realize almost everyone is mediocre at their job.

What are the legal qualifications to be a judge again?

Welcome to every other day in criminal court.

If he wanted to keep grinding he’d have stayed a lawyer.

A top tier lawyer would be taking a pay cut to be a judge. Some do it anyway out of a sense of public service or whatever, but some do it because they're mediocre and/or lazy. It's a steady paycheck and the workload isn't bad.

I’d describe it more as a relevant anecdote on one of the most troubling underlying trends in our society… an explosion of selfishness

Was it in a state where they elect judges? I am going to assume so. Its the same reason a bunch of idiots get elected to every other elected position.

The Judge stated he had seven cases to get through before lunch. This started at 10am. He was obviously rushing through, he went through four cases in an hour before getting to the one I was there for. A civic association was suing a junk hoarder who kept filling his whole front and back yard with junk . This had been going on for 7 years with him being forced by blight court to allow the city to clean it up, for him to quickly return to filling it back up. This has happened repeatedly and is an eyesore to all the surrounding neighbors. It’s a decently nice neighborhood.

Be an attorney in good standing for 5 years. Win an election

The worst kind of judge IMO.

Imagine how bad the fricking is for the baws having to pay those lawyers. Our judicial system
is a scam run on those poor souls unlucky enough to get sucked in.

Sounds like a motion day, but whatever. I watched a judge blankly stare at several groups of attorneys during a motion day docket yesterday. She didn't rule on anything, asked no questions, and didn't give any indication that she had ever heard of any of the cases or issues. So yes, some judges take the bench completely unprepared.

I was selected to be on the jury of a civil trial a few months ago in St.Tammany and the judge knew just as much about the case as the attorneys did. I know why we can't hear it but I wish we had been able to hear audio when they had to go up for side bar. It got heated a few times over objections. Would have made it a lot more interesting.
