I'd prefer her being bitter towards me while i'm at peace every night knowing I've made a life changing decision that shows he was always priority! One day he'll grow up and that will make a world of sense.
Assuming your intentions are to be the dad the little one deserves and not to bug his mother, I'd think over time even she would respect you for doing so.

She took our son, when he was about a month old, back to the country where she lived, which is far away. We agreed early on that was the best place to have a newborn because she had the help and a lot of friends there as well
Is that legal for her to do?
Also sounds like you kinda screwed yourself

You need to be with your son. Move where he is.
If you live in Louisiana, you have absolutely zero to lose.

He’s still my son and I feel a responsibility to be in his life but when his mother hates me that makes it difficult

hugging him bye when I visit or seeing pictures of him on IG, it feels like someone shot me right in the chest.
Awww poor you

Do I keep going through the heartbreak of seeing him just a couple times a year
Good god you sound like a little bitch, no wonder the girl doesn't want you in her or the kids life.

You move to be near him if you love him. Or you fight to legally get partial custody. Anything else and you’re not trying.
We agreed I don’t pay any child support or alimony but she would get 100% custody
And work out visitation between the two of us and not have to have the courts involved

I wanted to but she has a lot of animosity towards me and just flat out said it ruin her and our sons life if I did because her friends hate and me being there she would have to fit in plans for me to see him in her already busy schedule
Wasn't planning to reply, but wow what a self-absorbed count.
Good luck, and if you want to spend time with your Son, don't let her selfishness stop you.

Seems like you're leaving some stuff out if she's so vehemently opposed to having you being closer and a part of the sons life.

Why does she hate you?

Sorry dude. You need counseling and it's not the time to be prideful. That's gotta sting like hell, and I don't know how it gets any better unless you move to him, which is what I would do.

Stay in the kids life as long as you can or you will soon be replaced with someone else in their life. Even if your only a small part every kid should have some kind of relationship with their dad.
It's difficult at a young age, but as they get older you can communicate with the kid without the mother being involved. You'll be able to start facetiming the kid when they are 5 or 6 probably and hopefully be able to see them a couple times a year.
When the kid becomes a teenager they will probably start to see their mom for who she is and maybe then you can bring the kid back to the States or at least be involved with the kid so they know who their father is and what kind of guy you are.
I would say don't be a dead beat dad no matter how difficult. Children who have zero involvement with one of their parents tend to have lots of problems throughout their life.

You gave a woman who hates you 100% custody of your child and let her move the kid across the globe?
Damn man.

What sort of agreement? Something legally binding or a handshake?

You can change your mind about this if you want.

You do whatever you can possibly do to stay in that boys life. Sure it’s hard, but you man up and just do it.
