re: Stupid ways to get fired? Got any good stories?

My manager at the shitty finance company I worked at had an expensive coke habit.

To help pay for it she would wait until the branch closed, and everyone else left. Then she would take cash out of the week's bank deposit. To hide the fact that the cash was missing, she would reverse a large loan payment made that week (essentially removing the money from the till). But, to hide the fact that she reversed the payment, she would give the loan a one month extension - taking the payment that was reversed and basically putting it after the maturity date.

She had been doing this for months. She also made a fake loan in her husband's name. She took the money from that, and kept extending the monthly payment.

Eventually we got audited, and all hell broke loose. Corporate HR had to come down and interview the entire branch to make sure that we weren't in on it. We all knew that she was a druggie, and had told the district manager many times, but he wouldn't listen.

She died of an OD a few years back. Which is sad, because she left behind two children.

A well known but highly disliked poster on this board caught two of his subordinates having sexual intercourse in an empty storage closet.

When I was in the Army a guy in my first unit popped hot a urinalysis and was booted out as a result. During the process he swore up and down it was some supplement he took.

The day he left post for good, he was pulled over. The cop found some weed on him. The unit only knew of that because the guy called from jail for help. Sucks for him because at that point he was no longer the Army's problem.

Worked as a valet parker in high school. One of the older guys took a Porshe out for a joy ride (Ferris Bueller style) and dropped the tranny on the interstate about 10 miles away.

He then applied for a job at a rival valet parking company and when they asked him why he was leaving the other company he told them the story about the Porshe and how he didn't want to work at a place where stuff like that happened. He conveniently left out the fact that he was the one who did it and they hired him.

Tall, gorgeous gal was hired as a personal assistant by a skirt-chasing VP where I worked.

A short time later she was fired.

Turned out that the VP asked her to return a rental car he'd driven to town after a cancelled flight; instead of returning the car she kept it for personal use.

VP hired another hot assistant.

It’s generally a good idea to wait to respond if you are emotional about a topic at work (or otherwise for that matter).

On another note, a new part time lady in our phone center was getting paychecks for 10 times what she should have. E.g., Instead of $500 per period they were $5,000. Simple accounting error and not her fault other than not reporting it…. For 6 months.

She was fired but pleaded innocence… “I thought y’all just paid really well” or something like that,
From what I understand she was sort of believable not being the sharpest tool in the shed. At least that’s what our HR person said off the record. But she’d signed the wage agreement and all the legalese, and that was grounds for firing, legally.

I’m really sad we didn’t get to see what a train wreck this would have been.

Around 2005 at a financial services company. The lowly entry level guys were just getting email. Kid mistakenly hits reply all to the entire region. Thought he fwd to his buddy and called the Regional VP a “primate” and that he was gonna kick him in the nuts. Said RVP was a minority and kid was obviously canned same day. His direct manager was also minority and lobbied for him to keep his job saying he didn't really mean to be racist. RVP:” nah he gone”
