That's fricking ridiculous.

They don't take cars away from people when they drive without a license. And cars kill more people than guns.

Surrending the gun isn't the punishment set out by the penal statute. It's a deal he made with the state to avoid the charges for carrying concealed illegally.

I suspect there were dozens of young men his age getting arrested for the same thing. Confiscate their guns and release them.

You're right. Someone driving without a license is actually operating the vehicle. He merely existed alongside the gun.

That makes this "deal" even more ridiculous.
