Now life expectancy is 76 years, but you can still draw as early as 62. Somewhere along the way Social Security went from insurance to retirement plan in people's minds.
Of course, that’s the only way to make social security viable, never have to pay or out.

Georgia GOP
I was heavily involved, convention cycles, etc. up until 2013. The Georgia GOP, party chair Sue Everhart and convention chair Randy Evans railroaded the establishment will on the state party multiple conventions in a row. Points of order not heard, people ignored standing at microphones, "the opinion of the chair" being quickly stated with a grin on voice votes which were way too close to call. The Republican Party is a fascist machine not much unlike the Democratic Party. My father-in-law always tries to get me to come back and join the local party but I told him if the party can get a decent candidate in the primary I will support with a vote and a donation, but I will no longer directly support the party.
While the Libertarian Party is a joke for its own reasons, one thing they do absolutely correctly is nominate their party slate of candidates at their convention. This democratic primary system of nominating general candidates has to go away. Until the Republican party supports that position, they are no better than the Democrats in that regard either.
There are a few other decent republicans at the state level in GA. Most of them are either trash neocons or are literally too stupid to understand what they're voting on (see Ellis Black). The good ones don't typically last. Like Washington, Atlanta don't run on principle.

Not want to, might have to with the cost of everything skyrocketing.

But it's not. Covid, vaccines and fentanyl OD's have reversed that trend.
We are going to get screwed coming and going.

With our low birth rates, is pretty much is.

But I thought life expectancy in the US recently dropped? Surely our wise politicians will drop the age to receive SS according to this?
Bottom line is that if you plan your retirement around SS, you have bigger problems.

No, "people" have realized once the boomers all fully retire there won't be enough workers left to keep the machine running. It's the logical consequence of pimping the infinite growth scam while also pushing depopulation through birth control using various methods.

Just like people telling pols they want to pay more taxes.......
There is NOTHING stopping them from doing so.
The problem is this NEVER happens.

It's interesting when the elite billionaires like Buffet and Gates say that the rich need to be taxed more
They can cut a check to the treasury anytime they want but they prefer to spend their excess on more investments or private charities
They're complete hypocrites

People see average life expectancy and draw the wrong conclusions.
Human longevity hasn't changed much since then. What has changed is a person is much more likely to survive childhood than 100 years ago. If a person born in 1923 made it to adulthood, he was just as likely to live past his 60th birthday as a person born today.

Why is retirement a all or nothing option?
Never really thought of it till now, but plenty of people want to keep busy in retirement, but don't want the grind of the 40 hour work week. Why not offer limited retirement where you can take incremental amounts of retirement based on what you're working. If I'm 60 and want to work 2 or 3 days a week, why not let me collect 40% retirement and offset the difference with W-2 wages.
They need to quit increasing the age of retirement and address the elephant in the room of an uberly mismanaged SS fund. Either that, or pay out what everyone has paid in and do away with it. That would be the constitutional thing to do.

If I could have worked 2-3 days a week, I'd probably still be working. But I got tired of putting in 40+ hrs a week when financially I didn't have to.

The gubment sold it (and forced citizens to buy it) as an insurance plan. They need to pay up.

Why is some government clown trying to tell Free People that they must work or not ?
If a person wants to work they have the Freedom to make that choice.
If they choose not to then that’s their choice.
The government should never be involved in this.
If a person doesn’t work then they don’t eat.
Phuck politicians.

Look at his peers in government. You can’t get those folks to retire. Who you are around has an influence on your views.
