Let us not forget JD has had two years more as a starter than Burrow. His up side is not gonna be near Joey’s. He can’t read the D or call his own play let alone anticipating open receivers.

You could say that about literally every returning quarterback in college football then, let's compare them all to Joe Burrow. There are much more accurate and realistic comparisons you could make.

Fifth year.

I get it, you were responding to someone who was comparing Burrow's first then second year at LSU to Daniels first/soon to be second year at LSU. But stupid??

Yes, I feel like there are much more comparable and realistic players to compare Daniels to.

Comparing one player to another who was in a totally different situation is not fair to either. Neither is it fair to compare them based on number of games started when those two came from totally different schools/situations/time. Just my honest opinion.

That's my whole point. Daniels and Burrow's situations really aren't similar at all other than the fact that they both transferred to LSU.

You need a timeout. You are being entirely too rational for this board.

Where I agree all those guys made jumps, they all have something Daniels lacks right now, the ability to see coverages, trust what they see and let ball go, if he can’t overcome that, he will be the same guy as this year. The question is, will JD’s jump be big enough to make LSU a national contender? That is what remains to be seen.
It may happen in the future, but as of now , no one will make the kind of jump JB did. Everyone needs to realize the jump Burrow made was partly because of the system and concepts Brady brought to the equation but the big part of the equation was the foundation/skill set of Burrow ( which is at a way higher level than most every other QB in the past 20+ years ) and that being:
1) elite processing skills
2) pre and post snap reads
3) spatial awareness and throwing on time
4) mental toughness and competitiveness
5) accuracy on the tough throws and when to zip it or put air under the ball.
Hopefully JD can overcome his weaknesses and make a good jump.

I keep seeing Hooker and Duggan and others brought up as showing a marked improvement, how many of them had 40+ college starts already behind them like JD does? He’s a more athletic JJ, where the game doesn’t appear it will ever “slow down” for him, and he cannot/will not throw to a spot or throw to a receiver that’s not obviously wide open. And rarely gets past his first read. And maybe we don’t have 2 first round draft choices at WR, but we don’t have chopped liver lined up outside either. And arguably a better TE. Also, Imo, the QB’s he’s being compared to were playing for coaches considered top offensive minds, not sure anyone puts Denbrock in that category.

The best thing for Daniels and this offense as a whole will be improving the run game outside of him.

I agree. And also, I think a more advanced, and effective, run option offense could be developed with JD at the helm.

Question is .... watching the teams we saw yesterday in CFP semifinals .... could a strong run team compete at higher in CFP, SEC-CG?

The question you should be asking is how many will JD throw next year, and will it be more than this year? The answer we hope is yes.

Why did the goalposts get moved to equaling Burrow or bust?

What about the career arcs of Max Dugan, hendon Hooker or Michael Penix Or Bo Nix or Jordan travis

I’ll give you Duggan and Nix, but Penix was good at IU and got hurt. Hooker developed a lot last year, too. The rest of the UT team improved a lot around him. Same with Travis.

Some people aren’t going to want to hear this or accept it, but Daniels actually DID improve over his last season at ASU this year, and he did it playing against better competition. He still has a lot of improving to do to be a great college QB, but he took better care of the ball, had a better completion percentage, more yards, more TDs and a better QBR. He also ran for more yards and TDs, even if his average per carry suffered and he took more sacks. People act like he was standing still, but that was not the case. But he needs to make a much bigger jump than this next season if he really wants to help his draft stock, especially in terms of arm strength and throwing downfield.

#1 is the most important. And while factors like being in the same system and working with some of the same players for a second year could improve it somewhat, there are natural baselines. I can't see that improving much.

We don’t expect a Burrow performance or a team like 19, but we do see a lot similarities between this year and 18. I think we will be vastly improved on offense. Our defense has to replace a lot of important pieces

the head coach says he's the starter for next year. it's your job to play ball. it means nothing, because you can't know how sincere the man is.

i will admit that on the face of it it looks like a positive.

still, this is coach speak.

If/when JD balls out next year these same idiots are going to pretend his IQ went up 25 points overnight and will shift the goalposts to "see? I told you so. He's doing what I said we need to do" and ignoring their comments on his ability entirely.

So will it take all off-season to teach JD how to let go of the ball? Because if he can’t learn this, nothing will improve
