40K people without power in Moore County, NC (Pinehurst) due to vandalism.

Multiple substations vandalized. They don’t say how, but I’m going to guess they were shot up. I find this very interesting. Fort Bragg is right down the road.

That or someone trying to steal copper. America’s infrastructure is more fragile than most realize and any real attempt at breaking it would prove quite effective.

Pinehurst is full of active duty and retired military personnel connected to Fort Bragg and Camp Mackall. Been that way for many decades.

Exactly. I was wandering dirt roads in that area a few years ago and ended up driving around Mackall. Pretty cool. There’s a SOF training facility there.

I grew up in Southern Pines. Local conspiracy theory is it’s related to a drag show that was widely protested last night. That’ll make for some interesting local drama if it turns out to be true.

It’s because of a drag show that was scheduled for last night in downtown southern pines. My folks haven’t had power since 8 last night.

40 miles qualifies as right down the road in Carolina. Just like Chapel Hill is right down the road from Raleigh at 30 miles apart.
