**SPOILERS**

My thoughts on the show (good and bad):

Good -
Wednesday was done incredibly well. The actress has her down pat, IMHO.

Enid is a great character and really good counter-balance to Wednesday. The window for their room - stroke of genius. Whomever came up with that deserves a raise.

The "Adult 3" - Gwendoline Christie, Christina Ricci, and Riki Lindhome were all really good in this. Shame that two are dead and one is most likely dead. If/when they make a season 2 they'll have a lot of folks to replace.

Lots of twists - definitely had me guessing wrong a few times on who the murderer was (though kind of figured Ricci's character had something to do with it fairly early on).

Effects were solid. Not amazing or anything, but they didn't pull me out of the show. Cinematography was outstanding.

Some great "emotional beat" moments - playing the cello, the hug near the end, etc.

The Bee Kid - was just a funny dork, which was a nice addition (though I think they overused him at the end).

Thing - always fun (and seriously was a bit worried they might actually kill him off for a moment).

Fester - I liked that they didn't over use him.

Flaws:
The love interests for Wednesday and Enid. Wednesday's two potential love interests were not terribly memorable - in fact both were downright annoying. Enid's, on the other hand, is barely present. They could have literally shown him being dismembered and I doubt I would have cared. I think Wednesday and Enid had more chemistry between them than they did with any of their love interests honestly.

The heel-turn of the Mayor's son doesn't really redeem him when he still lets his friends pull their stunt. If we had seen him fighting with them or something, maybe then, but honestly he's so ancillary and they seemed to try and rush his redemption.

Bianca Barclay (the Siren) is sort of in the same boat, but we get enough time with her to better sympathize with her. I still would have liked an extra scene or two to help flesh out why we should like her or why she's okay with Wednesday prior to her suddenly being on her side.

The rest of the secret society - could have died, would not have cared. They barely had speaking parts, but suddenly are willing to kidnap someone with Wednesday?

The Principal's death - see that "run up and stab a person with a syringe" way too often. She already knew the woman before her was willing to murder people - seems highly unlikely she wouldn't have at least put up her arms in defense if she saw her running at her.

Gomez - I honestly don't know how I feel about him. I get this one is more "comic accurate", but I think I like the Raul Julia interpretation better. I have an easier time believing that version taught his kids to be resilient and able to kick arse than the one shown in this series.

Summary:

I really enjoyed it - was willing to binge watch it last night. Looking forward to season 2, and curious if they'll keep it as a murder mystery or a new concept. So long as Jenna Ortega is still playing Wednesday I'll give it a watch.

This was fantastic. I can see why it's getting so much buzz and reportedly beat out Stranger Things for most hours watched in a debut week. Jenna Ortega was perfect for the role and I think they have a decent set up for continuing the series with her detective novels.

Spoilers

It's a shame they'll have to get a new principal for season 2. The supporting cast was a bit uneven in quality and she was one of the bright spots.

I have a feeling her dance scene will become iconic:

Wedneday's Dance

It has the makings of becoming a fad dance

It's really good. Brienne from GOT kills it as the principal too.

I agree with all of your good, and want to push back a bit on your flaws, because I don't see them as flaws as much as by products of other choices - though concede it is merely my interpretation as much the flaws are yours...

quote:

The love interests for Wednesday and Enid. ... I think Wednesday and Enid had more chemistry between them than they did with any of their love interests honestly.

I think the fact that individually their "partners" were replaceable was a choice that further highlights how important Enid and Wednesday become for each other. If either of Enid or Wednesday were pulled to far towards the love interest it would take away from the 'natural' development of Enid and Wednesday together. So I don't see it as a flaw merely a reflection that for Enid and Wednesday no one is as important as Enid and Wednesday.

quote:

Bianca and Mayor's Son

I think they did a great job of writing teenage kids as teenage kids. Bianca's a bitch and you get a concrete explanation for why, yet she also never went so far in bitch that she couldn't come back from it. Mayor's Son is a bit different, but I got that he was reconsidering, but those two guys were his "friends" and their peer pressure in that moment won out, but in the end also served to scare him straight. The fact that the two of them get the moment in the Weathervane to sit with each other and discuss who they want to be just demonstrated to me that they are broken people trying to figure out how to be their own people. I can agree that maybe they shouldn't have been so readily accepted by others, but I totally got why they would find some likeness in each other - they would want to believe the other can be redeemed to believe themselves redeemable.

quote:

and the rest of the secret Society
- I think they were meant to be canon fodder and just fill the background, I don't think we were supposed to care about them.

quote:

The principal's death and Gomez
- Agree. Flaws. Though Gomez gets a bit more of a pass because clearly they were going for a different aesthetic than many of us would have preferred and it just didn't work. But I can appreciate the effort. The principal's death was a bit more lazy than it really should have been.

Final Assessment - Absolutely binged it and will absolutely watch at least 2 more seasons (giving a pass for another season if it takes a bit of a dip due to expectations).

Halfway through. It’s like Scooby Doo meets Harry Potter meets Percy Jackson. It’s entertaining enough.

Anybody that watch’s Yellowjackets notice Ricci does the same move with her glasses in this show.

Netflix had it on a constant live loop on YouTube. It's definitely taken off.

Six episodes in so far and I’m really enjoying the show definitely always nice when there’s actually a new solid series that just randomly pops up.

I was never big on the Addams Family but I know enough to know the basics and everyone seems to be on point with how they’re supposed to be portrayed.

Jenny Ortega is fantastic as Wednesday which isn’t surprising since she was great in Scream. Wednesday definitely has that typical goth/Emo girl type feel which isn’t a negative just more that goths and emos are pretty damn similar, South Park nailed that

Girl who plays Enid is great as well, kind of waiting for her to have one big moment aside from being the preppy best friend to the central goth girl. Do find it funny that Wednesday’s roommate looks like she just stepped out of Coachella

Tyler and Xavier seem to be your standard which guy will she choose characters but overall both are solid characters although Tyler seems to be more developed and not just angsty artsy dude

The bullies seem like something out of a Stephen King book, they literally tried to assault a teenage girl in broad daylight twice with no repercussions other than Wednesday beating their arse

Briene playing the principal has been great and yeah pretty obvious that 6 foot 6 tall blonde chick is the girl who plays Briene always super easy to point out. Feeling like she’s even more connected to the beast then that’s been revealed

The wife andni really enjoyed its

It was fun

Has some serious YA Novel vibes

It really felt like a script that was written as a generic mystery at a monster school and then got reworked to fit an existing IP

As an aside, am I the only one who LOVED the music from this show?

My wife and kids have been watching this show, and I’ve been in and out the room when it’s on and I’ve noticed the music. Just the little bit I’ve seen through the first 4 episodes it’s been awesome.

That rendition of Nothing Else Matters on the cello or violin was bad arse.

the wife and I finished it - it was damn good, and the twists really threw us off until the end. I loved Ortega as Wednesday, but i think Enid was my fav of the show.

Same here, I just keep thinking she's going to be smoking hot in 2-3 years.
