It's been hot as shite up here but my AC wasn't cooling correctly. They came out and added 2 lbs of freon but "couldn't find a leak" anywhere. So it's just a matter of time before it happens again.. hopefully I can get through the 100s before it crops up again.

Its worth going out to clean your outdoor coils after that saharan dust last week. That stuff can gunk up the radiator fins.

It’s not going to cool the house more than 20 degrees from outside, probably less.

Nothing you can do about it. If it breaks, it breaks.

My ac froze up last week and all they could find was that it was dirty. Hoping it doesn’t happen again.

Trying not to overwork it

Let it run to 71… turn the temp back to 74 or 75 and let it rest until I get noticeable uncomfortable in the house then back to 71 it goes

My unit is only about two years old or so, and it can't keep up with the heat during the day lately. We'll have it set on 72 and it'll be 76 in the house. I used to have two huge trees in my front yard that shaded the house pretty well, but we got rid of those earlier this year and I think that's the difference. But I'm not sure what else to do to keep the a/c trucking. May call the company and see if they can service it to improve efficiency or some shite like that.

If I had an older unit, I’d keep a window unit on standby.

I'm doing the right thing and setting my AC to 80 degrees to save energy and help the polar bears. That should keep wear down as well.

Replaced the AC this year to the tune of $20K. That fricking hurt, but it's like Lambeau Field in the house right now. Looking at adding a radiant heat barrier to the attic and topping off the insulation.

Mine will hold 75, but it runs non-stop. The kicker is it keeps running until after 10 pm bc it’s still 90+ degrees after then.

I’ve an appointment scheduled for next week to have it looked at, but I’m considering the purchase of a window unit as a backup.

I keep ours on 76 during the day and 72 at night. We have lots of trees surrounding the home so natural shade saves us.

Prepared to sit in warmer temps inside, thermostat is higher and not wearing much besides gym shorts and tank tops. Definitely not going to try to push the ac during the day. At night that thing will be set at 50º

I don’t know how people aren’t comfortable with keeping it at 74-75 during peak sun then lowering to 71-72 at night. Keeping it on 69 all day long puts too much demand on the unit on days like this

Ours stays on 73 during the day and 70 at night.

We got the windows tinted on our house 2 yrs ago and it dropped the AC bill by $30/mo

Already spent $260 on a Friggen capacitor. Worse part is I’m an electrician but was in training.
This is prime time for HVAC companies. Have a buddy that works on it and when it gets hot they know almost exactly what goes out on each unit. They keep the van stocked and get in and out in ten minutes. The guy we used went straight to the capacitor and was out in ten minutes flat.

FTR No way I was coming home to an hot, angry wife after a long day. Worth every penny.

Not me. I'll just have the harem fill their mouths with ice and blow on me.

I think about it constantly. We’re keeping the thermostat @ 74/75 and it’s still cycling. There’s a giant banana tree outside our bedroom window; I didn’t like it, but I think the shade helps.
