Houston is not all that great. The only people who love it are people from there. The whole Dallas vs Houston thing is stupid too. They’re both never ending sprawls. People are boring. No culture. The shopping centers are all very similar. Traffic forces you to take toll roads which rack up quickly costing a fortune. The music scene is meh. So many places around Houston try so hard to be cajun it’s annoying. I will add that The Woodlands is a nice suburb. I don’t have anything bad to say about it.
New Braunfels is my personal favorite city. I also like Brenham, Decatur, Paris, Huntsville, Lindale and Tyler.
If I have to be tied to a major metro I’m going with San Antonio and living on the north or northwest region of it. Seems a little less cosmopolitan like the other metros and access to the outdoors is solid.

I prolly would lean towards Sherman

Boerne, Lakeway, Fredericksburg, New Braunfels
Big city wise: Austin, San Antonio, Fort Worth, Houston, Dallas (in order) even though none would be bad to live in.

I’m an Austin native. But give me either Memorial in Houston, Highland Park in Dallas, or Alamo Heights in San Antonio. Otherwise I’ll pass on anything in TX.

Hico and Hamilton have both stepped up the last couple years and are both turning into quaint small towns.

Austin is without question my most hated city, anywhere. I've been there 5 or 6 times now and I hate it more and more every time. frick Austin.

If money were no object, I'd go 1) Austin 2) Dallas/Houston 3) SA
They're all good enough places to live, but none of them are towards the top of where I'd want to be. I live in Houston now, and I have too much happening here professionally at the moment to leave.
