Cronin certainly hasn't shite the bed. Prohm and Kennedy also did not make the Big Dance multiple times at Murray like McMahon did.
As has been said, nearly all hires are crapshoots, but it does give me more confidence that McMahon has maintained pretty consistent success.

Hope he brings in a group of assistant coaches who can coach... that is a key factor that is usually ignored! Wade's assistants, imo, never were very good with coaching the game of basketball.

Getting a coach like this for a program on the cusp of the NCAA hammer coming down is shocking. I'm guessing someone has received word the punishments wont be as bad as some expect.

Given everything it’s really a pretty damn good hire. I’m shocked actually. But again how many times have we seen, LSU expected to hire ___ and turns out it was a false report. Will believe it when the ink is dry and properly announced.

That's the knee-jerk thought that I had, too, but the fact is that the rules are different now with NIL. The better way to say this is can he lure the caliber of players that Wade did while NOT recruiting like Wade. And say what you want about the stupid crap that he is accused of doing (and, if true, he deserved to go), but I've met him and seen him off court interacting with the players and he absolutely had charisma and brought energy. It wasn't just the alleged payments (which every program does), Wade made these guys want to play for him. Hopefully the new coach can bring that energy without the baggage.
