man frick russia. it has to be made clear to them that we know they dont have as many nukes as they say they do, we are following, within firing range, every sub they have and if they use nuclear weapons we will wipe out not only moscow but all of russia.

also needs to be made clear that you dont just get to bluff nuclear war over and over to get your way. frick that.

I know in Grozny and Aleppo, they did the same thing they've done in Ukraine: surround the city with artillery and shell it into oblivion.
My point is we didn't see this. We saw what the Russians showed us and we really didn't care. In Ukraine we can see for ourselves. I don't think most of us OT posters felt Russia would stumble this badly. We can see now why they are stumbling. Not saying they will not ultimately smash Ukraine, but they most likely won't get them to submit.

Not certain about the evolution of NCOs but a well trained professional, general staff is Prussian.
Correct… I could be wrong, but the Prussian officer corp was pretty much exclusively the yunker (no way I’m spelling that right) land owning elites… that changed some when the Germany was unified in 1871 (saxony, brandenburg, and Bavarian armies were incorporated into Prussian structure)…. But was still largely controlled by the elite of society.

Smoke is rising from the building of the Russian embassy in Poland. Allegedly, the diplomats are burning the documents. I think i've seen this somewhere before?
Here we go boys.

You realize they have put forth fairly decent terms three different times already right?

You know how I know you don't know shite in regards to this situation?

yeah they figured out having smart people to focus on one capability on a general staff was a good way to do business.
It was a big deal to be able to wear the red staff officer stripe on your trousers in the German Army. That means you went to the staff officer school which was still based on the Prussian model.

Biden is going to Poland this week. Nothing will happen.

You saw them lining their ducks in a row throughout the Olympics. They can probably wait a week or two.

Yeah really decent... give Russia your most important lands w/all your major natural resources and ports, you can't have a military, you can't join any Western alliances be they economic or military, and put back in the extremely unpopular leader who was clearly a puppet that you got rid of in 2014.
Such a great deal!

“The rabble of Ukraine and its deluded allies shall withdraw at once beyond the Anduin, first taking oaths never again to assail Vladimir the Great in arms, open or secret.”
Greenhead22: Yeah that’s a great deal, and I’m sure Putin will live up to his word!

Well, maybe for Greenhead that is a wonderful deal.

They rolled the majority of that back to pretty much can't join NATO and the two eastern zones be autonomous, limited the offensive weapons they install.
Posted on 3/22/22 at 6:08 pm to GREENHEAD22
Zelensky said he'd drop trying to join NATO before the invasion and Russia invaded anyway. You're a fool to believe anything coming from Putin.

3. This conflict would not be over for years regardless of outside involvement. The Ukrainian people hate the Russians and they would not just bend over and spread their butt cheeks to please Putin the way you have done.
Honest question, how much impact should be placed on western intelligence & training combined with the massive amounts of equipment & munitions given to them?
I have to believe a significant amount that has aided the present results, but I have no means to even attempt to quantify. Not making the case the Ukrainians are inept or Russia would have been done 3 weeks ago otherwise, but seems clear the war is much more in Ukraine’s favor because of the above.

I posted somewhere way back in the thread that both the US and Britain established training programs for Ukrainian SOF in the aftermath of the 2014 war. That's in addition to American and other NATO forces making regular deployments to Ukraine to train with their opposite numbers. All that has obviously paid dividends, and they really haven't gotten to the insurgency phase yet, which is what a lot of the training was about.
Ukraine performed ineptly in the 2014 war, which is probably one reason Putin thought he would roll over them again. Obviously it was a wakeup call for them. They were motivated to learn and we provided the opportunity.
