Amen. All of this shite happened under Trump. As we know when something happens under a president its that president's fault right?
Or does it all depend on whether people like that president or not? Im sure what you mentioned above was not Trump's fault.. But anything bad that happens under Biden is 100% his fault.

Do we have any idea how Ukraine sets up their force? They were former soviet. Do they now have a structure similar to the west? Or are they going at it ad hoc? I suspect they have brave NCO types charged with taking the fight to the Russians?

Thats a great question.
We have been training them for years now so not sure how much C and C they got.
At first it looked like platoon sized elements out hunting and killing armor but now they are maneuvering larger units and regaining ground and holding it.

Trump didn't try to force a nation-wide vaccine mandate. Biden did. fricking idiot.

A quick reading of the history states the NCO structure is very different than European armies of the time. It was uniquely American and developed in part as a non-aristocracy structure that was common in Europe. It dates back to the Revolutionary War.
Edit: Much of this structure was enacted through von Steuben who was a Prussian "soldier" and enlisted by George Washington to shape up the soldiering in the colonies. So we can thank Baron von Stueben from Prussia for the success of our military via the NCO corps. Now Back to the topic of the post.

Has the newsweek article discussing the fact the Russian elite aka oligarchs are apparently making plans to dispose of Putin been discussed yet? Apparently, those guys really want their Yachts, etc back. I mean what’s the boat of being a billionaire if you can’t pull into the harbor with a 700 million dollar boat like all the big boys.

My impression is it was born out of the American and French revolutions… pretty much all European armies of monarchies consisted of commissioned officers/ nobility…. The French abolished feudal privileges (tho napeolon kinda brought it back) and the US never had them.

I'd be pissed, I didnt steal all this money to have to live in fricking Russia.

The biggest Oligarchs are Jewish. I think 10 of the top 13? If I remember correctly.
They have a lot of money, but for cultural reasons they may not have a lot of pull. And they can also just jet off to Israel, to avoid the pressure that sanctions will place on civil society in Russia.

Watched this a few days ago… US army ranger colonel talks about his time in Ukraine in mid-2010s after Russian annexation of crimea… mentione getting them out of that Soviet mindset and to start thinking like a modern military. Starts about the 16 min mark.

Word is the CIA had been doing serious work in Ukraine helping them in the months leading up to the invasion. Sounds like the Ukrainians paid attention in school.....

That's why it would be over by now. Once they punch Russia in the mouth they would have come to terms. If the US/EU weren't in Zs ear this would already be over.

Well it’s not exactly a secret… Ukraine asked for assistance from western countries after the 2014 invasion… US, UK, and Canada have all had uniformed officers in Ukraine for years helping train… and we’ve sent billions to help equip.
I know everyone wants there to be the big bad CIA boogeyman behind everything… but this ain’t it.

In my mind, this is exactly WHY we have an agency like the CIA....

I don’t know how far back it goes, and why the Germans were different, but they pushed authority down to junior leaders.
