Didn't she fight and even lead parts of the rebellion of the Noldor along with Feanor?

The only thing I could think of would be in the second age when she lead Eregion. Possibly would have had to fight of Morgoth followers. But she was mainly a safeguard in most of the battle and declined to fight.

Just looking it up and apparently she questioned her decision not to fight so later on (you could interpret it) she decided to take up arms to sort of rectify her earlier decision/regrets.

There's so many gaps there is going to be a ton of stuff that the writers are going to just come up with that doesnt follow cannon. It would be impossible to have a TV show with multiple seasons that is a continuous storyline without doing that. Which probably isnt a good thing. But i'm not going to fault them for it before I see it and know that they will have to take certain liberties.

As someone who has read the LOTR trilogy once a year for the last 24 years I have been very leery about this series. Looking at the pictures I have no issues - other than Galadriel who I don't think embodies the beauty and grace of a Cate Blanchett type actress but who cares. It's hard to find someone of that caliber with that look so if she's a good actress who can give off a similar vibe then great.

As for all the hubbub about the black female dwarf - who cares? Dwarves are never given an overarching race or complexion so while it doesn't make logical sense to me that a species of mainly cave dwelling individuals wouldn't be pasty white - with those who hunt and spend time outside of the mines being darker (but not black) - it's a fantasy world so the rules of evolution and skin color don't really apply here. As long as it's not some forced diversity community like we saw with the Two Rivers in Wheel of Time and she's a good actress then I'm fine with this.

With that said, I do have concerns about the elf/human love story. That is one race that is explicitly described as "fair skinned" so at first glance it seems like a diversity casting which I am firmly against.

…Seriously? So we started off being angry because the show runners might change clearly established races. But now we are angry because the show runners used a black actress for a less clearly established race, because that race was loosely based on fairly tales - created in the dark ages by people who had probably had extremely limited interactions (if any) with black people - which were then adapted by Tolkien 1000 years later to create Middle Earth? That’s the source of outrage now?

It's weird that you actually typed out the words below, but somehow still came to the conclusion that isn't "established races." I have never once claimed these weren't established races at all. What you quoted from me was me refuting someone else making that claim.

“But Tolkien based his world on Norse and Germanic folklore, and there weren’t any/many black people in those fairly tales!”

I think there's enough wiggle-room in Tolkien's writings to allow for plenty of different appearances.

It's been stated a whole lot, but bears repeating: most of the LOTR tales involve a small group of people.

Elves- you get mostly Noldor in LOTR/Rivendell, you get Sindar/Teleri in Mirkwood and most of Lorien (with some Noldor). No mention of the Avari, at all.

Men- Edain in the West, Dunedain in Numenor. There were other houses, that didn't travel West.

Dwarves- Durin's Folk is one house out of seven. Heck, there were even the petty Dwarves, who had been exiled from those houses.

So we've already established that there are many sects that aren't ever primary characters.

I don't care about race as long as it's not openly out-of-character. I'm FAR more concerned about quality of story and production.

Funny you should mention that:

"adding a bunch of nonsense that had no basis in Tolkien's books" is the exact reason the Tolkien Estate shut down any further development or movies from Peter Jackson. They went off-canon on several things, notably Freckles the Elf (a simple Wood Elf capable of healing on a par with Elrond, one of the Wise). They also tossed Sauron in at a scope he didn't belong, and otherwise took liberties with the story.

If you look into this series, there are stipulations written into the contract stating that they can't deviate from known canon, or otherwise frick with the broad themes.
maybe deviating is needed in a movie/tv because every 10 minutes there would be random singing for no goddamn reason.

We’re going to need a “bitch about the black people” thread in addition to the standard discussion thread.

I mean, there was as an actual viking named Geirmund Heljarskinn - also known as the Black Viking because he and his family were mixed race.

Just a cursory investigation,
He wasn’t black, his mother was from Siberia, he had Asian features, Mongolian to be specific. The English called Vikings from Denmark, black Vikings, Vikings from Norway were White Vikings.

Gary from Nerdrodic called it. I don't know if he had any inside info ( his sources are clearly better than Doomcock's ) or if he just knows these people better than they know themselves.

that's usually the problem with this shite though. Writers and directors are concerned with this stuff at the expense of the scripts and stories.

This. It's like having a bunch of white people in Wakanda.

All that BS aside it's probably going to be terrible considering how little source material they have to work with.
