that's usually the problem with this shite though. Writers and directors are concerned with this stuff at the expense of the scripts and stories.
Most people appeared to sour on that series pretty quick.
GeauxTigerTM’s link stated it pretty well.
There is an addiction people have to these books and properties.
Hollywood draws people in by using that and then pulls a bait and switch.
It is interesting how people keep holding out hope that Hollywood won’t screw this stuff up.
People love these properties for what they are, not what they should be.

I have no hope after Star Wars. They will destroy LOTR and make you despise it. And then blame you.

I read the Vanity Fair article. If this reveal is supposed to win over book readers, they're not doing a good job.
Too many new characters no one cares about, and too many canonical characters don't even get mentioned.

Dang. That guy nailed it, and I'm absolutely guilty of doing what he said. Trying to convince myself that I should purchase Prime to watch this series when I already know it's not going to be worth it.
He convinced me not to watch. Maybe I'll catch it on someone else's sub sometime, but they certainly aren't getting a new Prime member out of me.

I’m glad Don Lemon has a backup job.

This is why Christopher Tolkien protected the properties.
Once he died, this should of been expected, tomfrickery at it's worst.

Good sound editing and cinematography can help save a mediocre storyline, but I sure hope it’s not a CGI shitfest like the Hobbit trilogy.
The original LOTR still has one of the best scores and visuals ever put on film, hence the 17 Academy awards they won.

Read the books a couple of times. Do not remember this character.

She's a new character. It's going to have a lot of characters that were not in the books.
Edit: Here is a quote from the show runner.
quote:
The driving question behind the production, he adds, was this: “Can we come up with the novel Tolkien never wrote and do it as the mega-event series that could only happen now?”

If it ends up like Wheel of Time then I'm going to be disappointed. WoT is a shite show.

It's really a simple choice. If you actually have issues with what these corporations are doing, then you have to walk away. If you don't, then by all means enjoy what they are making for you.
But if you don't like it, you have to stop paying them to make more of it. I get it...I've loved many of these properties as well. Born in 1970 so I grew up with Star Wars, Raiders, Terminator, Alien, Predator, etc. I love those original movies and I'll always have them. But I'm done supporting anything new, because they have shown me and have told me they have no intention of trying to make those fans happy. "The Message" is more important. So, I'll walk away and look for new creators who are interested in story before checking boxes.
But Eric form the video makes a great point in regards to the new Spider-Man movie. That's bait. It's just designed to get you to fund their other shite.
But like I said...if you're on board with "The Message" then great, ignore my post. But if you're not, there's literally nothing to be gained by holding your nose and giving it a shot when you know deep down what they are doing. They no longer deserve the benefit of the doubt. They are telling you what their goal is...maybe listen?

Tolkien does describe the elves in the First Age, at the beginning of the Simerillion. The three branches of Elves were the Elwe, Finwe, and Nolder. They were also known as the Grey Elves, Dark Elves and Fair Elves.

quote:It has the benefit of following WoT. I think they are looking hard at how that show failed.
If it ends up like Wheel of Time then I'm going to be disappointed. WoT is a shite show.
Let's keep one point in perspective here:
Wheel of Time was 6 or so episodes that covered what, 2 books, and there's a big series of books.
The Rings of Power, for actual written material, is a chapter in the Silmarillion, a couple obscure references in LOTR, etc. And they've decided to go at least 5 seasons.
Wheel of Time had to pare out a lot of information, Rings of Power gets to fill in stuff. There are no written meetings of, say, the King of Numenor reminiscing with "Great Uncle Elrond" about family history, while I expect that to be a scene in this show at some point.
We "know" Moria was a great Dwarven realm, they were friendly with Eregion and eventually helped save some of its' peoples. We know a Balrog eventually takes it down. That's IT.
Production values and such- we know LOTR was a success. We know The Hobbit made people want to puke (literally) with the different camera speed and CGI, we know WoT was a complete whiff. They've still got 6 months to tweak the visuals a bit and overlay the score, and try to make sure they present it in a way that will appeal.

I wonder who came up with the idea of making the black dwarf chick's head look like a pumpkin?
