rules can be ridiculous
Some of the loathsome bitches that run “rescues” are doing nothing but using dogs as a vessel to excerpt some type of authority. Sad because most out there are just trying to find homes for neglected dogs.
These are the worst form of Karens and take away from people trying to do good.

The benefactor puppies are the ones that are in high demand. The cost helps pay for the other dogs needs (food, vet services, etc.)
I do tend to agree with the ridiculousness of the references and home checks and what not.
In one breath they decide who is and isn't ok to adopt a pet and in another breath say how they need adopters/fosters etc.

I’d love a sheltie but the rescue rules can be ridiculous. One lady had a problem with one side of my fence being a different material than the other sides.
Were the milk crates and yarn the primary or secondary style?

Have a registered beagle that doesn’t hunt that you can have for free

I've rescued cavaliers. I usually charge to cover my costs for that particular dog. Usually it's 150 to 250
If you're going to gripe about that for that breed, you don't need to have it.

So go to the pound instead of a rescue.
Got my dog at the pound for $20. Best dog ever

I paid $500 to a local organization for our second doodle that was a “rescue”
It basically covers the month or so it took them to place the dog when it stayed with a foster family. They also brought her to us which was nice. It’s for sure a business though but it was well worth the money.

frick the rescues. They wouldn't let us adopt a dog because we had a kid... they would however let us adopt a pit bull or pit bull mix or similar type of do with our kid because it would be a more appropriate dog for our family. Of course they never tell you to your face, they let us fill out the application, schedule a home visit and all that crap then when we got home we got an email saying our application had been denied, took some prodding to get anyone to even talk to us but eventually someone said it was a no go because of our son... WTF. WTAF. It was like we were blacklisted at all the rescues after that. What is worse is they get to pick the good dogs from the shelter before the public can. Shelter people are fricked up, they need to be in the cages, not the dogs.

At $550 you'd need to take into account the dog was given up for adoption for a reason.
The high dollar dog comes with a guaranteed behavioral issue, or it would not have been given up.
At least with a low rent rescue mutt, there's a good chance it'll be a great dog with a reasonable cost.

The process is ridiculous these days. We were turned down several times last year. Fenced in yard, vet relationships, kid under 5. It was so frustrating.

Our local shelter has a "free" weekend they do every now and then. We werent really looking for a dog, had just lost our boxer, but figured if it was "free" we'd go check it out.
They posted all the dogs available for adoption. We found what looked like a litter of puppies and just said one of them would be fine.
Call the place, those puppies werent part of the deal and would be a few hundred bucks for one of them.
We got another boxer for cheaper than the "free" puppies.

I paid $25 to adopt a GSD recently from the SPCA. He has heartworms but I’m going to help save him and my girl GSD loves him
The NOLA rescues I’ve come across are very uppity and don’t communicate at all.

Why did you get turned down?
I like how all the ones complaining about not passing are real lacking in detail about the issues

Nah frick them. The rescues whine on social media about dogs being in shelters but refuse to say where the dogs are located when someone actually wants to save a dog.
They’d rather force you to do a foster application, adopt them from the SPCA themselves and charge you a large private adoption fee without paying vet bills the SPCA would’ve paid

Pure bred dogs definitely doesn’t mean clean slate. I’ve seen some crazy/stupid pure bred dogs that people pay thousands for. Give me a rescue any day

Got my buddy from the humane society for 100 bucks. Came fixed, with all his shots and only missing a tail.

quote:I learned this in the 2016 flood when they left the dogs. My brother and another neighbor rescued all the ones that hadn't drowned yet. Those pieces of shite left all those dogs locked in cages. They would have all been under water. So they spent some time high and dry on our land while my brother and the neighbor cooked all the meat in my freezer to feed them. And they all made it.

We were denied because we didn’t accurately answer the question r/t average yearly cost of owning a dog. We already had one dog, but never sat down and calculated the yearly cost. They assumed that we couldn’t afford one.
