A question for religious people.

I was raised Catholic, was an alter server (never been touched) but got out of the church in high school. Now that I have kids we put them in religion and my youngest asked me about God and the universe.
How do you explain God creating the Universe? All the galaxy’s and planets and especially black holes. He wants to know why God made them. Advice please.

It is ok to say "Good question, I don't know."

A simple “God created the rules of reality. These things are a result of those rules.”

You can start by reading verbatim from genesis 1. I'm not being a smartass when I say that. You will not be able to answer all of his questions because we can't fully comprehend how and why god does things.

I have a feeling this thread is heading down a rough path

“You know, son, I don’t know the answer to all those questions. What I do know, though, is that everybody has their ah ha moment in life when it comes to God. Mine came years ago and again when you and your sister were both born. It’s okay to not fully comprehend some things when it comes to God. I don’t think we are supposed to know some things and are supposed to just have faith that there is some place that our souls go when we die to live eternally and that everything was created for a purpose.”
What’s wrong with any variation of the above?

You could try Stephen Meyer and his take on intelligent design.

Tell them the truth… I don’t know. Or the classic reframe: why do you think God made black holes?

Because God is omnipotent, having unlimited power; able to do anything. The “why’s” are great it means your kid is thinking hut don’t focus on giving him the perfect answer rather then pointing him in the direction to see with his own eyes Gods h great works and miracles. Build his Faith, as well as your own and enjoy a relationship with Jesus. The “whys” will always be there.

Religions and spirituality require faith. We do not know the answers to everything and rely on faith. If you see and know everything it does not require faith to believe in it. Faith is a huge principle of spirituality. When we meet our maker it will be revealed. If there is no supreme being then we will never meet our maker, so that answer to your child remains true. I am a believer, so I have faith those questions will be answered.
How would you explain creation of the universe if there is no supreme being?

Took my two Catholic educated kids to the Smithsonian Natural History museum in DC. We made the turn into "evolution-ville" and the wife immediately looked at me with a thousand versions of the death stare.
Sometimes it's best to say nothing.

I feel like anyone with a child should be able to come up with an answer for how an all powerful and all knowing being could possibly create any and everything. If he/she were so inclined of course.

100%! I suppose atheists believe it just popped up out of nowhere one day. They’re fricking tools.

6000 years ago, God created the earth. Humans and dinosaurs lived together, but sadly there wasn’t room on the ark for them.

I don't
I say that I don't know, but I am looking for answers. Encourage the child to join the search with you.

Being a believer doesn’t equate to knowing everything.
Why did God make the galaxies and universe? I have no idea. My son once asked me “where did God come from?” I still don’t have an answer to that one.
