Any idea how much he paid for it? I know it's not cheap but are they as much as a new TBM?

I think the OP said $2.5m for the mustang.

A new TBM900 is close to $3.5-$4m. You can get a used one in the $1m range. There’s one for sale in Luling for $1.2m.

Think he could fit a set of golf clubs behind the seat in the cockpit?

Years ago I went to the Oshkosh air show. Everyone should go at least once. The shite you will see that is privately owned. Your mind will be blown

Thanks for the info. I don't know why someone would down vote me on my original post for making this inquiry. I like to make connections with historical things .

And here I thought the plane couldn't get any cooler.

It does appear that this Mustang is still fitted with its six .50 caliber (12.7 mm) M2/AN Browning machine guns, and the cockpit is fully equipped the same as it was the day it landed for the last time in 1983.

Unfortunately I believe it is illegal for those guns to be operational on a civilian aircraft. Or at the very least it requires some sort of government permission.

I've always heard that the P-51 costs $1k an hour to operate. I wouldn't want the bill for the annual, but I guess if you can afford a $3M toy, $1K an hour to operate isn't much.

On a side note, I will be in your neighborhood for the car auction next month. How's the area regarding covid? Pretty relaxed?

The owner told me $3,500/hr to operate- I will ask how he arrived at that $ figure.. I would imagine a huge chunk of that includes hangar fees and maintenance costs to keep the thing in the air and I know for a fact the 100/130 fuel that thing guzzles ain't cheap.

Think about how much that F4 or something more modern would run you. Where do you get parts?

Scottsdale is wide open with no restrictions. The area adjacent to Westworld (where the auction is held) is an indian reservation and I heard the hotels and casinos on the reservation require masks most if not all of the time.

Cool deal man. I don't think we will be dealing with casinos or hotels. Airbnb already booked.

Not trying to be an arse, but the P-51 is a single seat aircraft, so how are you supposed to be able to ride in it?

Ok, I must have misheard. Asked him about flying costs and parts, his response:

"$5-800 per hour and there still seems to be plenty of parts. Guzzles a gallon a minute."
