P-51s are just beautiful.
But, I know they were outdated and underpowered during the war, but I absolutely love a P-40. Maybe it’s the shark mouth but that plane has great lines to me.

My boss owns a P-51 and he's supposed to take me up in it once the annual is completed. He's had it for a couple of years now. Last year at an air show, he met an original P-51 pilot. They got to talking and my boss ended taking the 101 year old up. That man had a smile on his face you just knew it meant a lot to him. I'll try and post pictures.

My buddy is a former USAF pilot and he has stated his goal is for the back seat of his P-51 to never be empty when he's in the air. Another goal is to fly the plane to Minnesota and give the 82 year old father of his USAF roommate- a former USMC pilot- a ride in the plane. I told a retired Army vet buddy of mine about the plane and he went crazy and asked if he could get a ride. He's going up this weekend. He's also very active in the local American Legion post and my buddy who owns the plane told him that any vet who wants to ride in the plane is more than welcome and they have a group lined up. He's very generous and realizes how fortunate he is to afford that plane and wants to share it with whoever he can. He's taking two of my brothers and my sister up in two weeks when they visit from WI.

My buddy just returned from the EAA airshow in Oshkosh, WI and sent these pics of his plane and other WWII fighter aircraft. Great pics, check out the aerobatics going on in the background of the second pics with the Mustang in the foreground. I have a cool video of him buzzing a friends lakehouse in Minnesota on the way back from the airshow I will post in another post.

The 82 year old father of my friend who owns the lakehouse (and a USMC vet) is in the backseat of the Mustang while buzzing his son's house. Apparently dad and son (he flew F-16's in the USAF now a captain for SWA) both cried like a baby. Pretty cool story!

Today, not sure I have enough strength in the the left leg to keep it straight down the runway on takeoff. :-)
Seems like I read they have a detent where the rudder pedal can be locked in take- off position giving the offset needed to keep it straight and sparing the pilot from the leg muscle workout.

My dad flew P-51s. He had his orders for Operation Downfall when the war ended. I m pretty sure he would have given his left nut for one more flight before he passed

I think I asked him about once. He said if he couldn’t have front seat it wouldn’t be worth it

Why did the girl painted by the name change ethnicity?

Single seat cockpit. You plan on riding in his lap?

Good catch. The plane came that way when he purchased it (white girl on the left side, black girl on the right) and he's not sure the reason why. Nor does he care.

I have my hangar @ KCNO (Chino) Known for the Planes of Fame air museum location LINK /. I imagine being in Az. I will see this P51 soon at Chino. Awesome bird, a friend of mine owns "Lady Alice" out of chino, he did his training in Florida @ Stallion 51. Tell your buddy congrats, and if he was a Delta Captain, he would have bought 2.
Just saw this. The guy who does the avionics on my friend's Mustang also does the avionics on Tom Cruise's Mustang and said it's hangared at Chino. He said Cruise is a badass pilot.

A lot of the P51s that are still flying have been modified to add a passenger seat behind the pilot.
