A very famous assassin grew up in a house in my neighborhood... maybe not quite Oswald-tier, but he'd give Sirhan B. Sirhan a run for his money.

I tagged a chick in the neighborhood pool.

Only landmarks in my neighborhood were houses, streets, one ballpark, and one church. Very fascinating stuff.

Our landmarks were these awesome schools that turned out good students, that went on to become engineers, doctors, or just pretty good citizens.
Now, those same schools are just where future criminals go to pick on the future good citizens.
Can someone do a brother a favor and go pour out some piss on Judge Parker's grave?

City of Lexington has the "witches graveyard" right on a main drag and most folks are unaware it even exists (KY is pretty strict on remains once they have been interred).

Russian Orthodox Church a block away
LINK

quote:
St. Nicholas Orthodox Church was founded in 1893, at the request of the local Tlingit community. Constructed locally by Tlingit people and Serbian miners in 1893-94, the church was built on land donated by Yees Ganalax and using plans and funds sent from Russia. Furnished, decorated, and outfitted by generous gifts from the Russian Mission Society, the church was consecrated by Bishop Nikolai (Ziorov) in 1894, the church has been a fixture of the Juneau community and landscape ever since.

Rocky and Carlos “Ladies Invited” sign
LINK

quote:
The five men, their families linked by two marriages, first worked together at a place called Angelo's, a block from where they would open Rocky & Carlo's. More a bar than a restaurant, Angelo's was a place inhospitable to women.
"They kind of built Angelo's reputation up," said Tommy Tommaseo, Rocky's son, who everyone calls Mr. Tommy. "They started putting food together."
Mr. Tommy was 12 when his dad and uncles opened Rocky & Carlo's with the help of their wives. The men wanted everyone to know their new place was a restaurant, not a bar. Men and women were welcome.
"That's why they put 'Ladies Invited,'" Mr. Tommy said, "and we rolled with that, of course."

Oh man, so many. One of our residents is, what, 108(?) now. She runs in the local marathons.
Our old gal is the first in the neighborhood to have an elevator. It isn’t in service anymore, but it’s so quirky I refuse to get rid of it.
Some of the homes in our neighborhood were transported via vehicle from downtown Baton Rouge when this area switched to being the LSU area.
I have the original plans to our neighborhood framed in my house and #6 says no black people can own property.. which is pretty crazy to me, but I hear Southdowns has the same. Not the proudest thing I own but I can’t part with the original plans. We are only the 3rd ever owner of ours and it began construction in 1938. Our doorbell is a crank bell you manually crank.
Here’s the excerpt from the plans:
There’s a book about historic neighborhoods of BR if any of y’all haven’t read it. Highly recommend.
We moved here from the neighborhood next door where a locally famous serial killer lived.

There is a house where a double murder occurred. Apparently a drug deal gone wrong. This happened probably 16-18 years ago.
It’s a nice, quiet neighborhood in a small town but people who get involved in drugs don’t care how nice the neighborhood is or what type of folks they’re bringing into the neighborhood.

There’s a trailer park a mile from me where a girl was kidnapped in the 00’s. I think about it every time I pass it if that counts.

I live across the street from a former President’s childhood home.
