Why is it taking Texas so long to make a hire?

They were ready to hire Saban months ago but don't have any backup plans, what gives??? I thought their money was unlimited.

UT has this notion that they are a premiere school and coaches are lining up to coach there. That top talent is itching to move to austin. So they are going after people who are already employed.
they maybe to back a dumptruck of cash towards one of these coaches, and they bolt. But reality is its not that good of a gig.
Fertile recruiting territory, but inferior conference, meddling ADs an the texas name just doesn't carry like it used to. Really ever did. Texans as a rule think highly of themselves. This is not really any different.

Because it's been so long since they have heard Texas not followed by A&M from the media that they will drag this shite out to keep their name on tv. Just watch they gonna try and hijack CG day with an announcement.

Making the right hire is the number one thing on the agenda. Texas is a top spot for a coach! That coach will be in the top 5 when it comes to salary! Yes maybe we didn't get the guy, but we will get somebody to take over! Texas does have the luxury of waiting a bit longer to find the right person! It's not because of the "truck loads of Money" or the "super sized ego" of the university and it's fans. Texas has been mediocre for the last 4 years, and that doesn't sit well with a lot of people! We needed a change. We may lose a recruit or two because of the timing, but no one recruit is bigger than the next coach that steps up at Texas!

I hate defending the Big 12, but it has consistently been the 2nd best conference over the last 10 years (probably equal to the Pac now though).

I heard they are still waiting to see how much money the other Big 12 schools will kick in to get Saban to UT.

Mack Brown is coaching the bowl game. They won't make a hire until after that. Pretty simple really, and logical.
