re: LSU backs down, very disappointing

quote:Well this is just disingenuous. All week everyone who shared what they thought was called “scared,” “jealous of the brand,” “delusional,” “pussies,” and whatever else by 99% of the LSU posters on this board, which is fine, by the way. After all it is a fan message board and that’s how fans roll. But to suddenly say “not everyone cares what others think” after all of the absolute idiotic things posted by your fans all week, man, that’s a weak take. LSU fans spent the entire week caring what others thought and being very vocal about it.
Not everyone cares what others think.

If you think the 5-5 thing is just a "one off" you are being willfully naive. As long as there are lawyers and coaches that are willing to challenge everything, there will be no "one offs."

It's not a Pandora's Box thing

Honestly though, what's the difference in pro and college athletes these days?
Since money got involved, not much. I’m 49, but for me it was that college athletes were amateurs and the ultimate goal was professional sports. Now we have guys that get there and can’t cut it, and they just go back to college like nothing ever happened. I hate where we’re at, but here we are. And I do appreciate the respectful discourse.

quote:Correct. My sincere apologies. I don’t care enough about the NBA to know better. And the “new rules” suck. Not much we can do about it, though. It’s where we are, and as much as I long for the golden days of college athletics they are gone. I also appreciate you asking a clarifying question and not going straight to being “scared,” “jealous,” or any of the tropes that have been tossed at people simply wanting common sense to prevail. Respect.
By "rookie league", I'm assuming you mean Summer League.

Yeah Sankey sucks, but putting his foot down on this,
quote:is the absolute right move. College athletics is withering away in front of our eyes and something needs to change. I don’t even mind NIL because being a college athlete is a hard thing to do and consumes much of their lives, but man, guys coming back after NFL camps and NBA rookies league…that’s insanity.
guys coming back to college football

Why again is LSU the only one being discussed?
Nobody cares what I think, but I think both schools are an embarrassment to what the spirit of college athletics should be. Oh and Texas Tech as well. There, I discussed both schools. Feel better?

Bert, Chad and Pittman made it harder on themselves than they should because they couldn't accomplish the bare minimum needed to have a long tenure.
Not only this, but these guys were too lazy to actually spend time fund-raising, something Silverfield has already embraced and is actually doing. The other guys just hoped that people would donate. Granted, the NIL movement has made it a necessity now, but none of them pounded the pavement like Silverfield. Hope is not a good strategy in collegiate athletics. Nobody knows if it will translate to wins, but I do appreciate the effort he is displaying at trying to raise funds and build our profile.

Not our day today, but Ruiz, Helfrick, and Niu are swinging the bat well. Cam needs help forms to advance in the tourney.

We all know it will be the longest, most gut-wrenching three outs in the ninth. Just like always haha.

Maybe, I’m just saying there may be more we don’t know. I don’t think DVH would keep someone around that is hell-bent on NOT helping the team. I ain’t trying to argue.

Don’t mean that either. I know what DVH said, and I believe him. I’m sure there’s more to the story. Not everything has to be scandalous.

I seem to remember his mom tweeting that that whole narrative was untrue. Regardless, seems like a good dugout guy and teammate.

I really wish Wiggins could pitch this year. He seems really invested and a good teammate.

Oh he's tried to focus on our own problems, but activist judges and even our own GOP congress continue to throw up roadblocks. They're the ones that do not care about the will of the people who placed him in office.

We have plenty of Dem candidates here. We could vote for them if we wanted. They have the same opportunities as Republican candidates, we just don’t vote for them because we aren’t stupid.

It's not just "workout" teams. It's about fostering an atmosphere of competition and accountability. This is not a new concept. Many teams do this.
