you think Saban was a culture fit in Tuscaloosa?

Culture has ZERO to do with it. Hire the best coach, period.

Didn't we just get rid of a coach who was a perfect culture fit?

Franklin fits the woodward mold of a hire pretty well

veteran coach, proven winner, he may win it all with better talent and resources but at minimum he's not going to burn the house down.

we will have to pay him a lot so we're married to him for a bit if that's the route we go.

Cristobal rebuilt the lines at Oregon. That was their weakness with Chip and Helfrich. They dominated OSU up front, which is shocking.

...and lost to shitty Stanford

Cristobal is O reincarnated. Positional coach-recruiter without the coaching chops to coordinate one side of the ball.

He's much better at this point and far more respected.

Tate though is Scott’s boss, would lose a power struggle with Scott. Woodward and the folks that are paying for this buyout hold the cards here. Tate can be involved but he isn’t forcing shite

My concern, given the TD sources we have, is that it sounds like there are some boosters or other influential people that are interested in Tucker as well. For example, the wording of "names being thrown around" makes it sound to me like it's the boosters talking about it. I would hope at the end of the day they buy into Woodward like they should, and are ultimately deferential to the direction he wants to go.

Cristobal has the organization aspect over O tenfold though

game day coaching isn't the best

tuckers schedule is so back loaded though. Once the losses pile up, the shine goes away.

you do still have a segment of boosters that yearn for anything connected to Saban so that's probably why Tucker and Jimbo are getting such run

but you're making a similar mistake O just made, trying to recreate something you just can't. Chasing an impossible standard

I hate they are on a BYE this week.

Really looking forward to their finish now.

IF wokeism is playing a part in this hire and IF we don't get the top shelf, why would we go with Tucker over Aranda?

Because Aranda is the wrong minority.

Tate could still spin it as the first nonwhite head coach

I feel sorry for any minority coach we hire.

Everybody will assume the minority coach was hired to satisfy Tate's ego.

Franklin seems like a good guy---he has never won a conference has he?---but if he comes here and has a mediocre season everyone will say he was only hired because he was black and on and on. Tate would probably let him stay longer than he would a white guy and the fans would really be upset.

Tate saying he wanted to make a legacy hire was a stupid thing to say and now he has put any minority coach he picks in a bad spot starting out.

Woodward can blame any miscues on Tate I suppose.

Oh---would he pay Franklin the huge money it would take to get him away from Penn State??? Would he pay him just to get a black guy as much or more than he would a proven coach like Dabo?

Moscona was talking about one of the reasons this didn't happen last week was because the President and AD couldn't agree on the buyout. The President didn't want to pay it, and AD did.

As we all know, they are paying the buyout.

Just saying...in terms of Tate wanting to be involved. He can be involved all he wants, but that doesn't mean he's going to get what he wants

This makes me more concerned about Tate’s role in this, not less.
I was surprised the buyout would happen at all without him coming out against it, but it would make sense that he agreed to it as long as the replacement would be to his liking.

If Tucker is hired because everybody else said no, then that's one thing. If he's hired over better qualified candidates (including Franklin and Aranda), then that's another matter entirely.

I wouldn't either, but he turned down the NFL to stay at ISU so I just can't see LSU competing with an NFL job.

I’m not really familiar with the situation. But it may be that he prefers the college scene and working with college players. IMO, they’re easier to influence and get to “buy in” than Pro-athletes. Ask Sagan.

Totally agree. Was convinced he was all in on a DC role, then he went to Waco.
