It’s a fact that we weren’t asking our linemen to get into the backfield and create havoc

The line under aranda was disciplined and was much better at accounting for running QBs compared to whatever the hell we were doing this year. Look what aranda did to lamar Jackson in the bowl game. It was a better scheme for modern offenses than what orgeron wants. Ole miss gashed us last year in large part to blitzes orgeron admitted to calling.

You won’t ever hear me argue against that.

Saying that our line hasn’t been elite while Orgeron has been here is foolishness.

Now ultimately I want what Orgeron wants. I want to cause havoc while rushing 4. Pelini obviously wasn’t the guy who could get us that while putting together a scheme to contain the modern offenses, but this years team could get in the back field while only rushing 4.

I’m not sure if he’s overrated as both a DL recruiter AND DL developer or if he just isn’t available enough as head coach to focus on DL.

We just had an edge rusher go in the 1st round ,before that we had key go in 2nd. Recruiting has been good lately with roy and smith.
Logan and Farrell played to there ceiling I'd say.

If you stop and think,it really hasnt been bad

Excellent post, you nailed it! Orgeron admitted to calling several of the run blitzes Ole Miss gashes us on and admitted overriding Arandas calls.

I'm guessing thats what led O taking shots at Aranda all off season.

Never, ever said it was bad.

I said it wasn't elite, which we all expected when Orgeron was hired.

We had Dave Aranda. We weren’t trying to have an elite Defensive Line. That’s not what he does. That’s not a knock on Aranda or his scheme he just wants big space eaters on the line

why you think that DL can't be elite as 2-gap players is crazy to me

Shelvin was an absolute beast. due to Covid i'm not sure if he's eaten his way out of the top 10 but he was that kind of guy last year

Yeah, I agree. More than likely someone in the ops building that schedules things. Like an administrative person. Thats why he is always close to the mark. Knows who we are interviewing but doesn't know the final decision to close when it comes out. But takes his shots at predictions. Im fine with it.

You’re not going to have the same stats from a 2-gap system as you can get out of a 1 gap.

They can still be elite, and I believe last years was, but they’re elite in different ways.

Players can be elite in that system but under Aranda the d line was never elite. It was very good and did its job but wasn’t anything special and rarely got pressure on the QB with just 4 players. That was Aranda’s weakness as a DC. His ability to get consistently put pressure on the QB. He could do it in spots with a well called blitz but throughout the game you constantly felt the QB had all day to throw.

Or DL has not been elite. It has been solid, but nothing like Clemson, Bama, or even OSU.

And that's "Just Fine" with all the Mediocrity Champions on here and in the fan base.

Mediocrity is acceptable for them. (Just look at the State of Louisiana in general)

He simply isn't focusing his energy in that area if at all being involved. He'd rather play CEO.
That's why LSU will never be a consistent dominant program.

If the HC doesn't understand that it all starts and stops with dominant DL's and OL's, it's all over and King Mediocrity will reign over the Kingdom.

There's not that much difference between LSU and Bama, except for OL/DL.

Doesn't really matter who's coaching them either if the talent is lacking in those two critical areas.....

Someone throws out a name. That name goes somewhere else.

Orgeron "lost him" or he didn't want to come here, or we couldn't afford him.

LOL.

No one knows if Bo Davis was ever even a real candidate. If we get him, great.
