Orgeron really hasn’t done anything special on the DL by himself though. Our draftable players these last few years at DL are always described as raw and having bad technique.

This is the fact here that should shut some people up about "we have a great DL coach already in O". The DL has been garbage for the most part since he took over as head coach. He simply isn't focusing his energy in that area if at all being involved. With Meatball, the DL was just bad, so it is clear you need a legit DL coach there since O isn't likely willing to put in the effort there. He'd rather play CEO.

I don’t pretend to know who his source is or who he is and to be honest I really don’t care. What is pretty obvious to me is he is close to someone in the building. Maybe not one of the coaches but someone in the operations staff, it could really be anyone. I can say with fair certainty it’s not O that’s about it. For the people saying he just reads the pay sites that’s bullshite from people who just like to be negative douchebags. He’s got a source and I’m happy with that and so should everyone else. Nobody is going to be right all the time, especially when you are dealing with 18 year old kids but his batting average is pretty high. Even the coaches themselves don’t really know what a kid is thinking.

If Bo Davis falls through then O is gonna start feeling the heat. This program has been in a tailspin since the championship game, except for a nice signing class. He needs to nail these hires or he’s gonna fail.

What about ole miss seems more stable? Didn’t they just lose to us in a historically bad season?

Lacouture was basically Maason Smith’s primary recruiter since the dead period.

I like Lac as the Dline coach. I like Bo Davis or Nielsen better but I like Lac.

This is how we ended up with Meatball. Everyone said he was a great recruiter but he just couldn't coach and develop.

I love Lac but I don't think he's there yet either.

So true.

I’m not sure if he’s overrated as both a DL recruiter AND DL developer or if he just isn’t available enough as head coach to focus on DL.

But we have not had close to the DL dominance in recruiting and development that we thought we’d have.

I think you’re probably just going to have to get used to having a young coach that can recruit at the DL spot.

We’re not going to get into a bidding war over a DL coach as long as we have Ed as head coach.

You can argue the merits of that philosophy but I think that’s just going to be the reality

Our DL this year looked pretty damn good and have you not seen our last 2 years recruiting the position?

Our DL this year was a good or better than its been in a while - finally got some studs in there and we signed some more in this class
This was the biggest reason O wanted to go to a 4 man front - Aranda's 2-gap defense was being used against us in DL recruiting

Or DL has not been elite. It has been solid, but nothing like Clemson, Bama, or even OSU.

Yes I’m hopeful the last couple of years recruiting will play out well, but they’re still largely unknown. Great potential though, I agree.

Orgeron had the reputation as being both an elite recruiter and elite DL coach, just expecting more

Created turnovers and a decent pass rush. Horrific in run defense and often out of position. But that could’ve been Pelini obviously. Talent with Olujari and Roy is there though, that’s obvious (and Gaye).

ETA:

And I don’t buy that shite. Bama and UGA run a 3-4 and have monsters on the DL.

Do y’all even listen to yourselves. We had Dave Aranda. We weren’t trying to have an elite Defensive Line. That’s not what he does. That’s not a knock on Aranda or his scheme he just wants big space eaters on the line

Hence why Ed spent the last year talking about an attacking dline. He’s spent the last two years recruiting guys like Guillory, Ojulari, Ali Gaye, Maason Smith, Landon Jackson, Bryce Langston, Jacquelin Roy.

So what exactly are you even talking about?

Almost like you can run different schemes within a 3-4

This is absurd. Of course we were trying to have an elite defensive line.

Not in the way you’re defining elite we weren’t. And our Dlines were elite in what we were asking them to do
