One of the great modern shootouts. Both QBs were in their bag, both running games were strong, LSU couldn't cover Tre Harris and Ole Miss never came close to stopping Brian Thomas.

I'm almost as interested in the week after for both teams. Coming off what will likely be an emotional game, LSU has to play A&M and Ole Miss travels to the swamp.

Does anyone even have huge amounts of NIL money sitting around right now for these players? I cant imagine these players have much bargaining power for NIL deals when they're crawling back to college football a week and half before the season kicks off. All the NIL funds are probably already allocated to the players already on the rosters.

The tough spot a lot of teams in are actual roster spots. Unless you dismiss or cut some walk-ons, which is a tough message to send to your team, most of the top level schools this year have full rosters.

Ole Miss for example only has one open spot that I know because a walk-on opted to go the JUCO route after spring ball. They can't take them all back.

He never had Lane and LSUs talent resources.

He had Cam Skattebo and Jordan Tyson who just went in the first round.

Arizona State was a playoff team two years ago.

why does A&M own yall so much? South Carolina and Arkansas both cant beat A&M and always shite the bed

South Carolina beat the brakes off of A&M in 2024 and nearly beat them again last year.

What if Sark, Heupel, Riley, and/or Dabo go 6-6?

Certainly a concern. Deboer could be one to watch as well, and I don't think SC will be the de facto #1 job available, but I think it will be one of the top 3-5 unless ALL of these teams have that kind of year. Last year they wouldn't have been top 3 in the SEC and borderline top 10 in the country.

But let's say that Wisconsin fires Fickel. Head to head, which is the better job? Michigan State is in a similar vein.

I'm a Carolina alum. Love the program, the school, and the state. But it has its challenges, and one of them being that it has never won large/consistently. Fits and starts, but never year over year.

Michigan State hasn't won more than 5 games since 2021. Wisconsin hasn't won more than 7 in that timeframe. SC was in the playoff picture just year before last. Neither school is putting the resources in that South Carolina is in the NIL era. Coaches pay attention to that. I think it's more attractive than you give credit for.

The path may be simpler at Michigan State but they expect you to play Ohio State, Michigan, and Notre Dame at a minimum every year. The margin for error is just as slim there as it is at SC.

You idiots always want the coach fired.Look how hard it was for programs like FLA,AU ETC.had getting a coach.THEY went for the gold,LK, and got their 2nd teamers.USCe isn’t even on the level of prestige of those schools,so what makes you think you will end up with a better coach than what you have.

On the flip side of that, there aren't a ton of coaches at major programs on the hot seat. Barring a scandal happening elsewhere or someone just completely tanking, SC should easily be one of the most appealing open jobs if it comes open.

It's also why MSU needs to cut bait with Lebby if he's in the 4-6 range again.
Ole Miss potentially getting 3 all SEC players back would be psychotic. I know we have at least one roster spot open too.

Ole Miss had 3 players granted eligibility by the injunction - all 3 were starters and very good players for Ole Miss last year.

TE Dae'quan Wright (Second team all SEC last year)
DT Zxavian Harris (preseason 3rd team all SEC but somehow missed an all SEC team despite a good season)
S Wydett Williams (second team all SEC last year)
There's really just not a stat you can point at and say that Sark is a better HC. Sark has one fewer loss than Kiffin but Kiffin has coached in like 20 more games. Kiffin's run at Ole Miss is more impressive than Sark's at Texas considering the vast resource difference and the baby shite soft schedules Texas had to open SEC play.

If there's a weakness, it's that Kiffin has folded in a ton of big moments and let his personal life influence his results more but he still has a better record than Sark despite that.
Most junior colleges, where a lot of these programs are taught, do have football teams.
There are 7 teams generally considered playoff contenders in the SEC this year. Due to the fact that they almost all play multiple other teams that are contenders, it's unlikely the SEC gets more than 3 teams in this year unless they all just got 2-2 against each other and undefeated the rest of the way.
When has Texas not recruited in the top 5-10?
Sark is an average coach whose tenure was saved by paying players becoming legal. Even then, his offense has been the issue more than the defense.

Or maybe the NCAA wanted to set a precedent that you shouldn’t play college football for 6 years. Asthma sucks but that doesn’t mean you should get a pass because you can’t get an easily controllable disease under control. Lots of guys sit on the sideline for a whole year and those years count.

That's part of the problem with the argument. There are guys that have played upwards of 8 years with multiple medical redshirts. They decided to draw an arbitrary line and it did not hold up under scrutiny.

Didn't he originally commit to play both sports at OM, or am I misremembering that?

That's correct. He was a RichRod recruit and flipped to Oregon when Luke's staff was fired and Lane was hired.
I'll go with a secondary guy like Edwin Joseph or Jay Crawford for Ole Miss. Offensively, it will likely be a WR. Keaton Thomas at LB is another good candidate.
quote:

Maybe not, but the precedent created is alarming.

Not really. Trinidad's team did a great job of providing all of the medical documentation that would normally be required for a medical redshirt. The NCAA decision to deny the appeal was arbitrary. The proceeding was streamed and recorded. Trindad's team had answers for everything, the NCAA just stood behind their ruling and then left the court before the judge even made his.

The NCAA is hoping the government will save them but I figure schools will move on from the NCAA before that happens.
He'll be 24 which isn't significantly uncommon.

Plumlee at Ole Miss could’ve been the next Wes Welker.

I think he would've been a better RB. He tried WR but didn't really progress there. Plumlee was fast and his best skill was his acceleration. He hit top speed in 3 steps which is more advantageous for a north/south runner than a slot WR trying to find a spot in a zone.

Unfortunately for him Ole Miss had a really solid RB room.
