I thought that was a pretty fair assessment. Some good, some bad.

If he is a lazy recruiter, he will find out real quick he has to step up his game.

If His assistant coach is truly feel that way, they have been living under a rock the past 10 years with the way it’s done with coaches and universities and new contracts and sports agents and having to keep quiet.

Frick off Bama fan. Your days are numbered due to Nick's age. No coach will ever duplicate what he's done there. Prepare yourself.

Kelly criticism will come from LSU fans when he deserves it.

Biggest difference will be guys he can get at LSU that he couldn’t get at ND due to academic qualifications. That will be a major difference

When a coach decides to leave there is never a good way! By him not including his staff in the conversation he actually showed ND and LSU more respect! He could've made it easier in terms of cherry picking his assistants if he would've let them in on it... but that would've screwed ND even more. Instead he did the best thing for ND, now they can go forward with the best chance of continuity!

In his press conference they attempted to bait him by asking if he had reached his ceiling/potential of winning the NC .. he wouldn't say a negative thing about the school or players. Nothing but compliments regarding ND but all y'all want to do is come make "digs" at him, that's ok, we understand. Geaux Tigers!

You talk like ND should have fired his arse years ago for his incompetence while at the same time all the chatter has been he is leaving us while he just coached our team to a possible playoff spot.

Nice try.

ND was Mid America Conference (MAC) level before Kelly returned ND to its lore and set all time wins record.

I know, I know...no one leaves ND, a national treasure and NBC darling.

ND ceiling is much higher than the MAC now, well done Coach Kelly; however, it is stratospheric at LSU in the SEC.

The end.

I hope Coach freeman can sustain and build upon what Coach Kelly did there. Although he’d only been there one year, I’ve learned in recent days that he was the real reason for all the success your program has had and I’m quite impressed. To get you guys into championship games and the playoffs while coaching at other schools is an accomplishment that is surely unrivaled by any other in the history of football.

Congrats on your absolutely savage throat slam of a take. Lol.

So what is your opinion on our superior sports talk forum with worldwide reach?

I’ve been sneaking around ND sites drinking tears of unfathomable sorrow and I noticed that your vintage message boards must be sad even when your HOF coaches aren’t being poached by backwards swamp people.

With the type of offensive talent he will have to work with, I think the offense will be much better than those at Notre Dame.

I'd wait until Notre Dame doesn't make the playoffs before hanging your hat in the ole, "Kelly's assistants hate him and that's why none of them followed him to Baton Rouge."

"If you had your choice, would you have rather BK had stayed at ND, or are you more excited about having Freeman?"

I'll answer. We right now believe Freeman has far more upside than Kelly had he stayed. The reasons? By all accounts, this guy has it. Our recruiting took a serious upturn specifically because of him.

And we got tired of getting blown out, not by just Alabama and Clemson, but by mediocre teams like Michigan and Miami on the road. ND teams were CLEARLY unprepared to handle those environments.

We ARE grateful for how Kelly turned the program around. We just feel there was another level he wasn't capable of - or at least didn't - reach.

I think this is where the biggest disagreement comes in. Most outside of ND feels there wasn’t another level, because of the many reasons that’s been discussed here, ND has a ceiling that Kelly hit.

The ceiling at LSU is way higher. I’m not saying for sure he will hit it, but it’s not debatable that it’s higher in Baton Rouge.

Just out of curiosity, how do you think Les Miles or Ed Orgeron would have fared if they were leading Notre Dame in these big games

Damn good thought-provoking question.

Bravo, sir!

Les and O would’ve likely still lost most of the games ND lost under Kelly due to the lack of talent. The only reason Les won a title and played for another was because of talent alone. The only reason O won a title was obviously because of talent. Kelly, who is already a very good coach, will be very successful at LSU and I’d consider less than two titles under him to be a disappointment to be completely honest. Assuming he stays for the whole 10 years.

I agree. I dont think ND fans understand the difference between athletes in the south and athletes in the midwest/north. Our kids are just faster. SEC speed is a real thing. ND won't ever be able to beat SEC teams, just accept it and start watching your polo team.

Appreciate the perspective. Regarding his niceness, I think that's overblown. I've not met a single head football coach at any level who wasn't an a-hole. They all think they have the most important job in the universe and act accordingly.
