I don’t know the ins and outs of these things. I know some nfl contract have this stuff though. For example they will let someone interview only if it is for a coordinator position.

What if the OC calls a play but the HC vetos it and wants another one?

I imagine this happens rarely, if ever, in the NFL

There isn't enough time for a HC to butt in and force the playcall change. It would be chaos and they'd have to use a TO

Kiffin being upset about a coach leaving for a better opportunity or more money is hilarious. I am sure Tennessee fans have a lot of sympathy for him right now. We all know that IF Alabama offered him last week, he would have crawled from Oxford to T town to accept the job. He continues to show his arse and immaturity at every opportunity. Oxford is the perfect place for him.

It's $625k...I think we could find the money. It is AU, and we have a history of coming up with these funds.

Apparently Nix had a clause in his contract that he had to pay a big buyout if he left for a non-OC position

Well Nix will have the OC title and I’m sure Freeze will have a big role in play calling. Lane is an idiot for pressing this.

Play caller and OC are two different things. There are many examples of OCs that do not call plays.

If he does goes after Nix for the buyout, it will end up backfiring on him.

This. If this goes any farther than his just twitter antics, it will be a really bad look on their part. Won't give a lot of potential assistant coaches the warm and fuzzies about coming to Oxford to help grow their career.

We are and there's nothing he can do about it.

Yet another reason why Kiffin will never be considered for a job like LSU, Florida, or Alabama.

Athletic directors want to minimize risk and potential problems when tying themselves to someone for $50+ million for 7-10 years.

That’s a NFL rule. They have to get permission to interview for a lateral move. Doesn't apply to CF.

You do realize Kiffin isn't that young right? He's 48.

For comparison, DeMeco Ryans and Jerod Mayo are in their mid 30s. Sean McVay and Mike Martin (or something) are also in their 30s.

Lol no he won’t. They require you to also have a defense is the NFL. Kiffin doesn’t know how to do that. He thinks he can bug he can’t.

Failure of a head coach. FACT!

Downvoting does’t make this untrue despite how much you Kiffinsexuals want it to.

NFL uses the same play clock rules as college (outside the final 2 minutes of each half)

Hugh tried to hire Nix last year, but as the WR coach. He has a weird clause in his OM contract that states he has to pay OM a buyout unless he leaves for a OC job with play calling duties. They were trying to work around the language, OM threatened to sue, and Nix wouldn’t come unless AU agreed to indemnify him and they wouldn’t so Freeze moved on.

Fast forward to this year and Freeze is going to go back to calling plays so decides to bring Nix over as the OC/RB coach. This is why you have seen Lane mad tweeting about Auburn for at least a week. He’s retweeted articles about Freeze calling the plays multiple times. That’s why.

Auburn finally just said frick you and hired him, and if Om wants to sue let them. Rumor is they have threatened, and yes Lane is big mad about it. More than likely they would lose, and they will embarrass themselves even more than their manchild head coach has to this point.

Contract law would supercede NFL and CF rules. If the language weren't allowed in the contract due to rules it wouldn't have been allowed to have the language. Let the lawyers battle it out like LSU and Chavis did. Millionaires bickering about other millionaires money.

Yeah the past few years have been rough. We know what Ole Miss fans feel like now.
