That may work for one offense but not so well for another

Exactly!!! There are so many people on here that have no idea what they’re even looking at or how to fix the issues we have. Our secondary doesn’t lack enough players. We have some elite talent on this entire defense. You have to have all things come together at the same time to put out good results on game day.

We had so many issues come up this season. We had multiple guys get hurt, had multiple first year (in the system) players, we had our brand new DL coach go down, we had players freshly coming off of injuries who hadn’t played in a while, we had to play young guys when they weren’t expected to play, and we had to switch roles for players mid season.

Some of this is on the coaches but some of it was just plain bad luck and a result of having to build a quality team via the portal because we didn’t have developed guys who were ready. Some of this was expected, but a lot of it had to be fixed on the fly, which isn’t easy to do. After a season like that, you learn how to deal with those things and you are better prepared the next time.

You also go into the next season knowing what your current players are good at or not good at. You can mold your defense off of that information while also continuing to develop them in ways that will help that defenses style. That’s exactly why they want to recruit and retain, rather than having to complete a defense through the portal. You can add depth with a few players but you don’t want to have to recruit starters from the portal at every level of your defense.

We also don’t know what type of offense they will run next season. With the offensive depth we have, there are many ways we can go this season.

What is bothering me quite a bit is that our coaches thought we had really good depth at certain positions the last two years, who didn’t perform well on game day. So their judgement on how good we actually are during offseason workouts is pretty far off from reality.

You should have a good idea how you’ll perform during the season after watching these guys compete for so long. We haven’t been very good at that the last two years. Hopefully we learning and that will help to develop our players for the season. If you don’t know where you need to improve then it’s much harder to mold your team in the direction needed during a season. We need to be much better at self evaluation during the offseason. That’s where you build your team for the coming season. JMHO.

This is beyond stupid, even for this board

There’s an argument to be made for giving someone a “promotion”, without previous experience at the position you would be hiring them for. Kirby Smart had no head coaching experience before UGA. Wanting a certain DL coach because he’s a great recruiter with local ties and you are mad he’s at another school doesn’t sound like one of the better arguments.

You are sick of hearing on DC experience is a disqualification but you think a year of terrible defense is a permanent factor? House had the #6 defense at Kentucky, that’s nationally not in the SEC. He didn’t just forget how to coach or “lose it”. I would be fine with a change but hiring just any position coach to replace him is not guarantee for improvement

think Baker has DC experience.

Baker didn’t have DC experience before he went to Missouri. He was LBs coach at LSU.

He got fired as Miami DC when he was at Miami. He then went to LSU after being fired at Miami.

Bo Davis is the lowest risk hire and if you make him your DC, he’d have something to prove

This logic is so flawed it almost makes sense.

And if we don’t hire him, Texas gets better and we continue to lose elite recruits to them including LA recruits.

And if we keep House then the defense will keep getting worse

I'm sick of our dumb fans thinking LSU is a stepping stone program where coaches get a chance to prove they know how to be a coordinator. It's fricking stupid, stop it.

He literally does not have as much of a chance to succeed as someone with a solid history actually coordinating.

Matt House had experience too, how did that work out?

Completely irrelevant to the factual matter of whether Blake Baker had prior DC experience.

We don’t have any money which is why Matt House is still here. They are hoping he finds an NFL job so we wouldn’t have to pay the buyout.

Maybe they have offered the job to him and he’s not announcing until seasons end once they have finished playing and LSU is finished…. Patience grasshopper…..Patience!

No. He’s only still here because his payout drops after Dec 31.

That’s the only reason

Thankfully you’re not on staff at LSU as well as hundreds of others around here because LSU would never see a winning season ever again.

This isn’t a knock on Bo Davis. This is a slap to you and all of those know it all HoF travel ball coaches are here.

I don't understand how someone could post this. Why even post anything if you don't bother to even look at his wikipedia? He was a DC for 6 years before coming to BR.
