If he’s not willing to take the DL coach position. We saw Blake Baker move from a position coach to DC successfully in the SEC, and there’s no chance Davis would be as bad as Matt House.

At least we know Bo Davis won’t be afraid to blitz, and he’s an elite recruiter and DL coach.

Would be great to get Bo back. But in current situation, Kelly may find it to be best to go with a proven commodity with experience as DC.

Who fits this criteria, and is he an elite recruiter and developer?

Bo Davis is the lowest risk hire and if you make him your DC, he’d have something to prove

When your secondary lacks enough players or has too many inexperienced players like we do blitzing will get you beat. Man that's defense 101.

Think before you post

Baker didn’t have DC experience before he went to Missouri. He was LBs coach at LSU.

Bo's never been a DC. Just DL coach. Could be huge upside, but also obvious risk involved.

And not blitzing got us beat last year because the QB had ages to pick us apart. Think before you post.

It was a case of pick your poison because we blew coverages, were outmanned, didn't tackle well, and weren't great at pressure either.

Matt House had experience too, how did that work out?

Completely irrelevant to the factual matter of whether Blake Baker had prior DC experience.

What the frick are you even talking about? Are you reading the thread, or just replying out of context to random posts?

I’m sick of people saying lack of DC experience is a disqualifier for DC. Bo Davis has just as much of a chance to succeed as someone who has DC experience.

And if we don’t hire him, Texas gets better and we continue to lose elite recruits to them including LA recruits.

And if we keep House then the defense will keep getting worse

we need bo as a dline coach. his expertise is desperately needed plus his recruiting is second to none.

Then perhaps go argue with those people.

I simply corrected the poster who stated, wrongly, that Baker had no DC experience prior to Missouri.

I took no position on Davis, Baker or even House, for that matter.

Eta: LOL the poster I corrected was you.

Agreed. What would it take for LSU to hire him away as DL coach though?

Could we pay a DL coach a million a year?

Why do some people say this? Every DC has their own philosophy, which is how they develop their own systems. For instance, some feel using just their front 4 allows them to drop more players into coverage. That may work for one offense but not so well for another, just depends on the QB and what he has trouble with. Also, some prefer to blitz to guard against their secondaries being required to cover for too long. Again, it may work against some offenses but not others.

You have to be multiple and be able to adapt/morph depending on the team/offense you face week to week. That's where inexperience is difficult to deal with. To just say that "inexperienced" guys get beat when you blitz is not true. There's pros and cons and it depends on your personnel which outweighs the other. Not blitzing is great if you can create pressure and contain a QB with just your front 4. Not so much if your front 4 sucks and can't get pressure OR contain. LSU was bad at pressuring, gap integrity, and containment with their d-line this year....as an example.
